ENoLL 8th wave opens on February 3: join the Living Lab community!

All public and private organisations from all countries in the world, actively committed to engage and empower users and citizens to take part in sustainable innovation processes, are invited to apply for membership in ENoLL as of February 3rd, 2014. Completed applications must be sent by May 14, 2014 at 12:00 CET. Approved new members will be officially welcomed during the 5th ENoLL Living Lab Summer School in Amsterdam, September 2014. All information to apply will be made available from February 3 on our website and social networks.

A first look inside the 2014 ENoLL Summer School

Ready to join us at the 2014 ENoLL Summer School? After the last successful edition in Manchester, the 5th edition will be held in Amsterdam during the first week of September, 2014. This Summer School will examine Living Labs-inspired methods, technologies and policy implications through workshops and lively discussion panels organized by both European and non-European experts. The one-day worldwide conference will stimulate a global discussion on Living Labs’ present and future achievements. A research day will be dedicated to academics aiming to present their papers on Living Labs and User Driven Innovation (a call for paper will be launched soon). Come and add your talents, skills and energies to ours: this is the place to be if you want to set up a Living Lab, know the most experienced organizations or just learn more about this research field. Forum “CiTIEs - Cities of tomorrow: investing in Europe”
The Forum “Cities of tomorrow: investing in Europe” (February 17-18, 2014 in Brussels) wants to emphasize the importance of investments in urban areas and cities as agents for delivering EU policy objectives. Within the forum the session “Smart and Connected Cities and Communities” will stimulate discussion on the role Living Labs, Open Data and creative industry can have in empowering developers and stimulating open innovation. The Living Labs community will be represented by three ENoLL board members experts in urban innovation processes: Jarmo Eskelinen (Forum Virium Helsinki - ENoLL Chair), Pieter Ballon (iMinds, ENoLL Secretary) and Esteve Almirall (ESADE, IIK, ENoLL Council Member). Living Labs at the Innovation Convention 2014
The Innovation Convention (March 10-11, 2014 in Brussels) is an essential part of the Innovation Union flagship, the initiative aiming to create an innovation-friendly environment that makes it easier for great ideas to be turned into products and services. The event will host a fringe session dedicated to Living Labs on March 10 entitled “Open Innovation and Living Labs shaping the cities and regions of the future”. This session will investigate how Living Labs methods and best practices can help building a stronger innovation ecosystem in Europe. Check out the programme and register!  

December issue of the TIM Review: Living Labs and Crowdsourcing

TIM (Technology Innovation Management Review) dedicated the December 2013 issue to Living Labs and Crowdsourcing. The guest editors of this issue are both from the ENoLL community: Seppo Leminen from the Laurea University of Applied Sciences and Mika Westerlund from Carleton University. Most of the selected articles are also contributed by ENoLL Members. Download the papers here
EDIP: a new platform to boost design-driven innovation
The European Design Innovation Platform (EDIP) is a project aiming to increase the use of design for innovation and growth across Europe, particularly relevant to the Living Labs involved in design-driven activities. EDIP aims to accelerate design-driven innovation in order to boost growth and job creation across the EU. The consortium is particularly confident that both businesses and public services will see tangible benefits by integrating leading-edge design into their sectors through the EDIP. Learn more here
The Creative Ring at FIA2014 in Athens
The 11th Future Internet Assembly will take place from the 18th to 20th of March 2014 in Athens, Greece. FIA 2014 will focus on Reshaping Infrastructure for Innovation (check the programme here). During the Assembly the Creative Ring will present a inspirational pre-session entitled "Future Internet boosting Creativity in Europe: scaling platforms, data, tools, services and communities". The session, co-organised by SPECIFI and Visionair, will gather first-rate projects engaged in the Creative Ring discussion to analyse and exploit results so as to contribute to the Creative Ring’s further growth and development. Co-creating a more experiential shopping center 
How could the Finnish Rajalla På Gränsen shopping center sound, smell or look like? During the three-day open workshop customers were actively involved in developing a more experiential shopping center. The workshop was enabled by the Lapland University Consortium's Elävä Lappi project and international IDeALL project.  Check out the

Launch of the European Cloud Marketplace for Intelligent Mobility (ECIM)

The European Cloud Marketplace for Intelligent Mobility (ECIM) will take the EPIC concept forward and develop a state-of-the-art solution that combines the strong cloud capabilities of an existing EPIC cloud-based platform with new functionalities that facilitate the easy migration of existing city services. This project will bring multiple European city mobility services to the cloud (e.g. on-street and off-street parking, POIs etc.), integrate payment solutions and combine these to deliver a unique user experience. Bridging Living Labs and Game Jams: the JamToday initiative
 

The European Game Jam Learning Hub, JamToday, will establish a central networking hub for the sustainable implementation and uptake of the next generation of educational games across Europe. In recent years, the Game Jam approach has been increasingly effective in bringing stakeholders together around relevant themes and challenges. There is now a need to focus on establishing a sustainable learning hub for raising awareness of educational games and their use within learning environments. Call for papers on Disruptive innovation in the ICT industries: Challenges for European business and policy
Taking place in Brussels (June 22-25, 2014), the ITS Europe 2014 conference brings together academics, policy makers, industry analysts to discuss their findings on telecom economics and regulation, broadband and next generation networks, new services and business models, media, content and telecoms and the like. 7 February 2014: deadline for abstracts and panel session suggestions. Horizon 2020: The Commission launched calls for independent experts
In view of the establishment of a database of independent experts, the Commission launched in November 2013 calls for expression of interest addressed to individuals and to organisations to encourage and attract experts with the widest range of profiles needed for Horizon 2020. This includes cross-cutting aspects such as: innovation, SMEs, responsible research and innovation, sustainable development and the like. Discover more!
Launch of the 2014 call for KICs
The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) has published the Selection Criteria for the 2014 Call for Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs). The first two new KICs, to be established in 2014, will address the thematic fields of (1) Innovation for healthy living and active ageing and (2) Raw materials.
