Happy New Year

Dear friends and family,

Seeing as it's almost the end of January, we thought we'd better get a New Year's update out for you! We enjoyed spending Christmas with our family here in São Paulo and having some friends over to celebrate New Years. We are especially thankful for several monetary gifts which will keep us financially solvent for the next month or two.

We have been able to open up our home to host people undergoing counseling at Refugio. It is one way we contribute to the ministry while it raises funds to build a guest chalet on the property there.

David has been busy in the last few weeks helping Ronaldo (IPP's seminarian, who just graduated) to organize a youth camp for the beginning of March. It will be Carnaval and many churches run youth camps during this time. Last year we had about 30 young people and we are hoping for around 50 this year.

We are so grateful that all the kids are healthy and growing well. Lucas celebrated his fifth birthday at the beginning of January with a police themed party. He and Elena were excited to go back to school the following week. Lisa and Leila are growing up too fast, well above the average for height and weight despite their early entrance into the world. Both are also on the move now; crawling, sitting up and rolling all over the house. They bring a lot of joy to our lives.

Unfortunately in recent weeks David has started to suffer from headaches which are the result of nerve damage from shingles. This virus had David in the hospital for a week back in 2009. Please pray that it won't escalate into anything more serious and that the side effects from the medicine he is taking would not affect his ability to function.

Speaking of hospitals, David took Lucas to the emergency room last week, with a high fever, red cheeks and a swollen face. He was diagnosed with strep throat and will be taking antibiotics for another few days. He has not been too sick though, for which we are thankful.
