Alumni Spotlight:

SCC Path Brings Rewards for Legal Administrative Assistant Alum

Shari P. Fischer

Shari FischerShari Peterson Fischer was raised on a farm near Morgan, Minnesota, where she learned the value of hard work and the importance of helping fellow neighbors and friends in need.

Starting her education at South Central College, Shari received high honors in completing the Legal Administrative Assistant program. Continuing her education, she went on to receive her Bachelor of Science degree and her Juris Doctor degree, magna cum laude, from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul.
When asked about her experience at SCC, Fischer said, “I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at SCC. I left SCC at just 20 years of age, but with the tools and knowledge necessary to ‘hit the ground running’ when I began my first position as a Legal Assistant only days after graduating. I commend Lynda Ernst for the strong legal program at SCC. She ensured we students were well prepared to begin our careers and also instilled in us the importance of maintaining a sense of professionalism throughout our lives. These are skills I have carried forward in life, especially now as an attorney.”

1998 Class Registration

Remember When?

Registering for Classes Before
Online Registration

As we welcome students back to campus for the start of spring semester, we reflect on the process to register for classes.  Registration now takes place online; an easier process compared to what students had to endure in the ‘80s and ‘90s.
Before the online registration process started in 1998, students had to fill out a registration form and stand in line to meet with staff who would enter classes into the computer and print out a schedule. The whole time you were in line, you kept your fingers crossed for the classes not to be filled; otherwise back to the end of the line.
