Sprout City Farms

Announcing Mountair Park Community Farm!

We're so excited to officially unveil our SECOND FARM SITE to be built in 2014 in Mountair Park in partnership with the City of Lakewood and the folks of Two Creeks Neighborhood!!

After 3 solid years of developing our model at the Denver Green School Community Farm, we are ready to expand--this is the first big step since our 2010 inception toward realizing our vision of establishing a network of community farms throughout the city!  Mountair Park is located at 14th & Depew St., and the park area to be converted to farm (area totalling around 1.25 acres) lies along both a bike path and the light rail corridor serving the new W line.

Many thanks to all the groups who responded to our RFP for a new site, to our partners over the last 4 years who helped us get here, to the City of Lakewood for their boundless energy & support, to our incredibly hard-working staff and board, and to our new community for their enthusiasm for growing fresh food in the neighborhood and engaging to reshape the food system!

There’s so much potential for collaboration at the new site and we can’t wait to get started.  We’ll be breaking ground in March, so stay tuned for news on 2014 programs & events, and fundraising to bring it all together!

DUG Free Seed Applications Due Jan. 31st

The deadline is fast approaching for Denver Urban Gardens' 2014 Free Seed & Transplants program! This program provides free vegetable seeds and plants to thousands of people for their home gardens each year, in addition to dozens of community gardens, schools and human service programs.

The DUG office, at 1031 33rd Street, will be open from 8am-6pm on the 31st to accommodate last minute applications!

CSA Signup Begins Feb. 1st!

2014 CSA registration will open this Saturday, February 1st through our website--signup is first-come, first-served.  In addition to our veggie CSA at the Denver Green School, we'll have a small CSA program at the Mountair Park Community Farm in Lakewood, as well as continuing to partner with Ela Family Farms to provide fruit shares at both farm sites.  Don't forget, we also offer a limited number of work shares and sponsored (free) shares by application--check out the CSA page of our website for details, and please contact us if you or your company would like to sponsor a share for a low-income family.

Now Accepting Applications for 2014 Internships

We're excited to have a new "crop" of interns at both the DGS Community Farm and the Mountair Park Community Farm this year!  Our volunteer interns work alongside our farm managers to execute farm operations and programs throughout the season, and gain invaluable hands-on experience with small-scale sustainable agriculture and community building along the way (and of course their share of veggies!)--check out the intern job description for details!

Eat Local?  Bank Local!

Open a new account at Westerra Credit Union and both you and SCF will receive $52.80!  Westerra Credit Union is locally owned by its members and is open to anyone in the Denver metro area.  Click here for full fundraising details and be sure to mention Sprout City Farms when you open your account!  Thanks to Westerra for extending this program to support SCF!

Join us at the 4th Annual Sprout Down!

Sprout Down 2014 will be held Wednesday, March 19th from 6-10pm at the Mercury Cafe.  As always, our Spring Kickoff will feature tasty bites from local chefs, a live and silent auction, local music, and fun for the whole family!  We'll be raising funds to start our brand new community farm in Lakewood, so come help us reach our goals!

We are currently seeking donations for the 2014 Sprout Down silent auction!

Donations are tax-deductible, and all proceeds support Sprout City Farms. If you have an item or service you would like to contribute, please complete our 2014 Auction Donation Form. We Need You!

Be a part of making all of SCF's 2014 plans a reality!  Do you have an item on our wish list that you could donate?  Are you looking to volunteer or organize a team-building event?  Or are you just looking to make a tax-deductible donation to help us grow our new farm?  We appreciate every contribution and thank everyone who has helped us grow along the way!
