What we hope to do with it...

In some ways the English Catholic Community is like a parish and in some ways it is not. We don't live near each other, we don't have a lot of organizations and activities where people meet. But being a community means having contact and getting to know others with whom we share our faith, and we hope this newsletter will help with that.

We hope to put photos of some of YOU here along with your name and maybe your home country. Then maybe others will feel more comfortable saying Hi or striking up a conversation. We also hope to send out some information to help us understand our faith and worship better, things that we can't put in the weekly bulletin. It will also be a forum for the occasional letter from Bishop Olivier or for a map or for a timely announcement that can't wait till the weekend.

In short, we hope it will be one more little endeavor to help us experience the bond and unity we have as the People of God in Phnom Penh. We hope you find it useful!

We will never be able to introduce all of our community members because we are so large and our turnover is so great, but we can introduce a good number of people. To start, let us meet (below) our new Parish Coordinator and three newly arrived lay missioners.

Carmen Lee, originally from Hong Kong, lived in Canada for slightly over two decades and then moved back to Asia because of her husband John’s job relocation in Asia in the mid-90’s. Since then they have lived in Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, Vietnam, and now in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Whenever time and situation allow, they have been happy to help out the local Church.

Carmen has become our first Parish Coordinator, to help us deal with the increasing work associated with the parish. Carmen will be in the parish office (at Maryknoll) two days a week and will answer the church phone and direct callers to the proper person or information. Welcome, Carmen!

Karen Bortvedt is a member of the Mary- knoll Lay Missioners. She is from the state of Washington in the United States and is now in language school learning Khmer.

Yessica Guzman is a member of the Quebec Foreign Mission group. She herself is from Honduras in Central America. Yessica will start studying the Khmer language next week.

Hang Tran is another member of the Maryknoll Lay Missioners. She is from the state of Texas in the United States. She also is now in language school for Khmer.
