A Note from the President ...

To freely offer to contribute to activities that benefit a community or group.
noun:
A person who chooses to participate by donating time, skills or efforts to an organization.
adjective:
The status of CAA's Board of Directors, chairpersons, committee members and helpers.
In anticipation of the 2012-2014 term coming to an end, a nominating committee has been appointed to create a ballot for the 2014-2016 CAA Board of Directors. A slate of nominees will be presented at the general meeting on March 28, and voting will take place in May.
Between now and then, I invite you to consider what Collage Artists of America means to you and how you may contribute to its future. If you've never envisioned yourself in a board position (and can't even imagine what it means) -- I get it! I took a giant personal leap when asked to serve as Treasurer on the 2010-2012 board, and an even bigger one when approached to be President for the current term. Had I not said yes, I would never have met so many wonderful artist-members and enjoyed such a rewarding experience!
Member participation is vital to CAA's future. You may be contacted by a member of the nominating committee, but you don't have to wait to be asked. Feel free to let me or any board member know how you'd like to be involved. And thank you.

Award-winning artist and educator La Monte Westmoreland has graciously offered to open his Pasadena home for a tour of his studio. WORKSHOP
A Collaged Book in A Box
March 4, 2014
In this one-day workshop conducted by author and book-maker Jeannine Stein, participants will create a handmade book that comes in its own fold-up box. We'll construct the box, sew in the pages, insert a pop-up and envelope, add collage and attach a closure. No experience required.

Collage Artists of America opens its 2014 Exhibit Schedule with a Premier Event
squared is not CAA's first juried open show, but it is CAA's first online-only exhibit. Collage is a historical and universal art form that continues to be created by artists worldwide. The squared exhibit is open for entry to collage artists everywhere, CAA members and non-members alike. Online submission deadline is April 1, 2014.

TIMOTHY WASHINGTON: LOVE THY NEIGHBOR - Exhibit and Artist Talk
The Craft & Folk Art Museum honors Los Angeles assemblage artist Timothy Washington with his first solo exhibit. Over the years, Washington has participated in group shows alongside his contemporaries Bettye Saar, John Outterbridge, Noah Purifoy, and others. The CAFAM exhibit offers a rare opportunity to see a large and diverse selection of his works from the 1960s to present.

WORLD ON A STRING
Bead Art and Book Signing
Diana Friedberg will sign copies of her book WORLD ON A STRING, which documents the cultural history of beads throughout the world. Selected pieces of jewelry from the book will be on view. Wine and cheese reception.
