UKCountryRadio.com Awards 2014 Launched

New Award for 2014

We have this week launched the UKCountryRadio.com Awards for 2014. And we are particularly excited to have launched our new award for 2014 - the UK Country Artist Of The Year Award.

This award, as the name implies, is for the best country music artist in the UK - the one that has achieved the most in the last year. It's over to you to let us know who you think deserves the award. Simply nominate your favourite by filling in the voting form on our website.

Nominations close at the end of May. The ten artists with the most nominations will then go forward to a special vote amongst UKCountryRadio.com's presenters and our subscribers. The winner will be announced at our Seventh Birthday Party in September.

Voting is also now underway for our Listener's Club Song Award for 2014.

There are over 30 songs in the running for the Award this year, all of them promoted through UKCountryRadio.com last year. The full list is in the Awards section of our website, where you can cast your vote.

Again, voting runs until the end of May when we will announce the five finalists with the most votes. The final will take place at our Seventh Birthday Party in September.

So now - it's over to you to let us know who you think deserves to win our Awards this year. We look forward to receiving your votes and revealing the winners later in the year.

Introducing Earl

Stuart Earl began writing songs approximately ten years ago. He teamed up with Lyndon Webb, Marty Fitzgibbon and Mike Edwards to form the four-piece band Earl, based in the south west of England and Wales.

Occasionally their lineup is enhanced with other musicians including steel guitar legend B.J.Cole. They play a mix of Americana, country and blues.

Listen out this month as we feature tracks from Earl's 2013 album "Peanuts and Monkeys". The album features eleven tracks, written by Stuart, including "Running To You" which we will be featuring this month.

Meet The Team: Nutty Norah

There's a special double edition of our regular "Meet The Team" feature this month, and that's because we have two exciting brand new programmes that we are launching during February.

First up is Nutty Norah who presents a new Friday night late show from 10pm from February 21st. Norah has a long history in both country music and radio, with involvement in Radio Luxembourg and Radio Caroline back in the 60s.

I hope Norah doesn't mind when I observe she can "talk for England", and I look forward to her new show and her observations on the week's events every Friday night.

Introducing Emma Jane

Emma Jane is from Glasgow. She has been performing live since 2005 and released her latest album "Silver Streets" in 2013.

We are this month featuring "Diamonds & Pawns" which describes Emma's frustrations with society and the typical problems people face on a daily basis. Emma says a lot of things are down to who you know and who you are, rather than what you can do. She sums society up by saying "we're all just pawns in this world gone wrong".

Emma has just finished writing the songs for her next album which is due to be released later this year. She is also planning some shows in Nashville later in 2014.

The ticket price of £20 includes a fabulous Ambience two-course buffet. There are just a handful of tickets left at the time of writing, so be sure to book your place soon if you would like to come along.

New music from Malcolm Jagger

Multi-instrumentalist Malcolm Jagger has made an interesting choice for his latest release. "Paper Doll" was actually written nearly 100 years ago, in 1915, by Johnny S.Black.

It was released by the Mills Brothers in 1943 as a big band swing song. Malcolm heard it on the radio some time ago and thought it would fit a country swing arrangement. He added fiddle and steel guitar and you can hear the finished production on UKCountryRadio.com

Meet The Team: Pete Kerrison

In part two of our double Meet The Team feature this month we introduce you to Pete Kerrison. Pete joins us this month to launch a new monthly new music show.

Countrify US is all about showcasing new and up and coming talent. The artists featured in the show are tomorrow's stars and they are out there today, already burning bright.

If someone had told Pete 20 years ago that he would be presenting a country music radio show, he would not have believed them as his musical roots were firmly planted in rock. Now, his love for rock still burns strong, but the fire led him down a country road and a love affair with country music blossomed.

Join Pete for our brand new show, Countrify US, on the third Tuesday of every month at 8pm, repeated Wednesday at 4pm. The first show airs on Tuesday 18th February.
