Caucuses and Wolves...It matters

When: Precinct caucuses happen statewide on February 4.  All major political parties will be holding precinct caucuses.

While many politically active people have never attended a precinct caucus, precinct caucuses shape the platforms of political parties. Caucuses are your chance to put your values in your state party's action agenda and platform.

Precinct Caucuses are critical because attendees select the delegates who endorse the candidates who will run (and possibly be elected) for office at the local, state, and even federal level.

Below is a Howling For Wolves' resolution that you can introduce at your precinct caucus this Tuesday. While the language may not be your ideal wording, it will guide you toward introducing this issue to your political party and get the conversation going at the grassroots level.

We know that the vast majority of Minnesotans value our wolf population. Now we need these conversations to occur throughout the state and across party lines.

Let's have resolutions to suspend wolf hunting and trapping and to support non-lethal methods introduced throughout the state through precinct caucuses. Let our elected officials know that from the bottom up and across parties, we want a conversation about suspending the MN wolf hunting season.

Keep Howling!

Resolution
to
Suspend Recreational
Wolf Hunting and Trapping
and
Implement Non-Lethal Wolf Management Measures

Now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED that Minnesota (name of party) “Action Agenda” (2014) is amended to add the following language under “Natural Resources and the Environment”:

1. “Support legislation that suspends the recreational wolf hunting and trapping season. Thereafter, if a wolf hunting and trapping season is proposed, full public comment and sound biological data shall be required before a decision to have recreational wolf hunting and trapping is made.”

2.  “Support legislation to implement, as much as possible, non-lethal techniques to minimize livestock-wolf conflicts, along with adequate funding to reimburse livestock producers for  wolf depredation losses.”
