Learning for All Plan Update
Board of Education meeting Monday, February 24th, 7pm, Elm School Dr. Tonya Moon from the University of Virginia will present a follow up to her 2011 evaluation of District 181’s advanced learning services. She will be touring schools throughout the day and providing a progress check of D181 Learning for All Plan and initial implementation steps. Attend the meeting, live stream or get the podcast at D181 Board of Education website.
8th Grade World War II Day
Eighth graders will travel back in time with the help of Veterans from World War II on Friday, February 28. Eight local WWII Veterans will take 30 minutes each to share their personal stories, show slides and props from their time in the war and take questions from students. Students will also enjoy hearing from a WWII medic, nurse, weapons expert and Holocaust survivor Magda Brown. Thank you to all of the parent volunteers coordinating this special experience for our students!
2014/2015 Registration
All registration and PTO forms are due this Friday, February 28th
Volunteers/nominations needed for 2014/2015 PTO Executive Board: The PTO is looking for volunteers interested in participating on the Executive Board for the 2014/2015 School Year. The general duties of each officer are listed on the attachment. Interested individuals should be consensus minded and flexible with the time
that they are willing to dedicate to the School/PTO. If you are interested in discussing a position, please call or email Susan Charlier or Iria Irlanda Jennings (Co-Presidents for the 2014/2015 School Year). Their emails can be found under the Officer tab of the website or you can call Susan (630)655-6646 or Iria (708)846-8831. All interested parties will be evaluated by a Nominating Committee and a final slate will be proposed at the April 16, 2014 PTO meeting. Thank you for your interest!
March PTO Meeting
Save the date for Wednesday, March 12th. Jeff Bean of Act on Bullying will talk about Internet Safety. Find out the latest crazes online from Snapchat to Vine. How can you make it safe for your child? Speaker fee generously paid for by Clarendon Hills Police Department.
CHMS Phone System Update
The District updated all phone systems last month, so please note that CHMS has a new phone number (630) 861-4800 and all teacher extensions have changed. A magnet was sent home with your student last month, but since we know many are probably in lockers, please make a note of it. See the PDF file on the website for printable versions of the new extensions or check the right margin at chmspto.org.
O’Brien School Update
O’Brien School for the Maasai in Tanzania (Founded by local resident Kellie O’Brien) sends HUGE thanks to the CHMS families for their oatmeal donations last fall. The shipping container left Hinsdale last November and arrived at the school on February 16th. CHMS, along with all of the other D181 schools, collected nearly 400 boxes of oatmeal that will provide breakfast to their students for nearly four months. Thank you for your generosity!!!
