*NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS*
Pop-up Piping Sessions
If you're heading up to Canberra this Easter for the National Folk Festival, bring your pipes along to the Pop-up Piping Session and share some tunes. This first Pop-up Piping Session will be hosted by South Australian piper, Jack Brennan. The idea of a Pop-up Piping Session is just to provide a set time for a piping session, similar to what we've done at other festivals. You won't find these sessions in the official programs, you just have to be in the know...but spread the word to fellow pipers - the more, the merrier! Details of more Pop-up and Regular Piping Sessions are in the 'Upcoming Events' section below.
When: Saturday 19 April at 2pm
Where: The Session Bar at the National Folk Festival, Canberra
Expression of Interest
June Piping Get-together in Perth
There might be an opportunity for us to organise a Celtic piping event on 28 June in Perth. We'd love to hear from you if you'll be in the area and would like to be part of this event. Depending on interest, this could be a piping session, concert, workshop or other event.
Please let us know if you're interested by sending a note to email@celticpipingclub.com. More details will be posted as they come to hand.
Piping Weekend in Talbot
8-10 August 2014
Pipers in concert at the Piping Weekend in Talbot, 2013
Yes, we'll be heading back to Talbot in central Victoria again in August for another great weekend of piping. Last year, more than a dozen pipers and other musicians enjoyed a fantastic weekend of piping, socialising, workshops, sharing tunes, performing and camaraderie. So put the dates in your diary to ensure you don't miss out on the fun this year. We'll posted further details soon. In the meantime, please send us your ideas of what activities you'd like us to include. email@celticpipingclub.com
Boxwood Workshops
5-10 October - Waipu, New Zealand
From our friends across the ditch...
Join us in beautiful & historic Waipu, New Zealand for five days of musical discovery and fun with David Greenberg (Cape Breton fiddle & baroque violin) and Chris Norman (flutes, small pipes); both artists who seek a broad context and canvas for their work and infuse their view of traditional music with influences as diverse as Irish, Acadian, Breton, and baroque idioms. Boxwood New Zealand is a magical experience with very limited enrollment [sic] and small class sizes, so please register early.
Chris Norman is a world class flute maker from Cape Breton. You can find more about Chris on his website http://chrisnorman.com/ or watch one of his performances on YouTube.
For further information about the workshops or to register, visit the Boxwood website http://www.boxwood.org/new_zeal_register.
