Say hello to Jen! Our new Compost Program intern

Big welcome to our newest Compost Program team member -- Jennifer Feschuk! Recently moved to Winnipeg from BC, Jen has a passion for trees. She loves to travel and has a soft spot for tropical regions, such as Costa Rica where she spent a year doing conservation work with sea turtles. Jen spends her spare time outdoors teaching her two small children about the beauty of nature. Read her full bio.

Pesticide legislation -- coming to you this spring?

While it might not feel like it, spring is around the corner. (Please, let it be.) With the warmer weather comes not only the season of planting and growing but the application of pesticides. You can help to ensure a ban passes on cosmetic lawn pesticides.

Recycle My Cell Winners
Kudos to the kids at Sun Valley School in Winnipeg for winning $500 in the Recycle My Cell Student Challenge. As part of Waste Reduction Week, the students helped to collect old cell phones, accessories and batteries. Sun Valley students collected the most in Manitoba. Way to go!
DIY: Becoming a Refashionista (of sorts)

Sewing from scratch is a lot of work and I usually lose interest half-way. Then I learned about upcycling thrift store clothes and now am becoming a Refashionista (or trying). Best of all, if I mess up, it's only a few dollars and a few hours of my time. Talk about taking the pressure off! Check out my first refashion that barely made it to the wedding on time.
