The Polo World in shock over the demise of Carlos Gracida. Idol & Legend.
With great sadness we have to report this unfortunate news that shocked all the people related to Polo worldwide.
Last Tuesday afternoon on the Everglades polo field a tragedy befell the polo community when Carlos Gracida (53) suffered a life ending fall. Carlitos suffered massive facial and chest trauma after his horse stumbled, sending him to the ground. Gracida was airlifted to the Delray Medical Center where efforts were made to revive him failed.
Carlitos Gracida reached the 10 goals at the age of twenty-five, won the Argentine Open five times, with La Espadaña in 1987, 1988, 1989 and 1990 and then the Triple Crown in 1994 with Ellerstina. He was the only non-Argentine player to win the Olimpia Award in Argentina, as the best player of the year, in the year 1988. The U. S. Open nine times, the British Open ten times and the World Cup seven times. Internationally recognized as one of the the most prestigious players, that has dominated the sport more than any other player in history.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends during this most difficult time.

The Ylvisaker Cup
A surprising decision: After a review of the rules due to the change of a player on the team of Valiente for the Final, the USPA opted not to accept this change, considering it an improper replacement. Despite being warned one hour before the time the Final should start , the team of Valiente opted not to play the game, and then by this way the trophy went to the Cabure without having played a single chukker. Robert Jornayvaz was call to replace his injured father Bob, but as previously Tomas Garbarini had been raised from 3 to 5 goals, the team was over the handicap tournament limit and could only play with a "0" hcp player to maintain the original 20 goals. This decision was not accepted by Valiente, since it seems they had been told before that they could play with 21 goals. Finally an exhibition match of 4 chukkas was played with a replacement Team by the withdrawal of Valiente.
Earlier in the day with fifteen year old Grant Ganzi replacing his father Marc in the lineup, Audi won the subsidiary cup by defeating Faraway.

Comments & Opinion
> Lessons from the Polo Fields.
Polo has, since time immemorial, been associated with arms, armies and the cavalry in particular, but recently in Geneva a second round of talks were held ostensibly to bring the conflict in Syria to an end. Rather like our referees, the United Nations had a rather hard time trying to apply obscure rules, that apparently few of the belligerents or players either understood or accepted. However, few or none of the participants probably remembered that in the late summer of 1184, at a time when Saladin was fighting the crusaders, the Sultan of Damascus often went to the polo fields just outside the city walls, to the west, to play polo accompanied by his sons. Just like Palermo in Buenos Aires, the polo fields were close to the racecourses, for there were two, separated by a river, and shady trees, no doubt planted to give shade to the pony lines. History records that the men of war only fought each other and left everyone else to go about their daily business in peace! Even when Christians crossed into Moslem held territory and vice-versa, they simply paid their customs duty and were allowed to continue on their way freely. According to Ibn Jubayr, “even in the internecine conflicts between emirs and kings, the citizens and merchants were not involved and their security was never threatened under any circumstance, whether in times of peace or war. The situation of this country, in this regard, is too particular for the subject to be exhaustedâ€. Perhaps, the lessons learnt on the polo fields, had something to do with this.
