GaMEP Plays Significant Role in AMP 2.0 Meeting in Atlanta

On February 3, Georgia Institute of Technology hosted a day-long event for leaders in manufacturing. Karen Fite, Director of the Georgia Manufacturing Extension Partnership (GaMEP), co-chaired the Advanced Manufacturing Partnership, or AMP 2.0*, which is creating a renewed national focus on U.S. leadership in the emerging technologies that will fuel job creation and boost global competitiveness. The more than 230 attendees heard from keynote speakers that included Mike Molnar, Director, Advanced Manufacturing National Program Office at NIST, and two industry leaders from The Dow Chemical Company and Siemens. Additionally there were two panel discussions around the following topics: How to Engage and Energize Manufacturing and the Challenges SMEs face in Adopting Advanced Manufacturing Technologies. During the afternoon, attendees broke out into four working groups where they discussed areas affecting manufacturing. At the end of the meeting, the entire group gathered to review the highlights from the breakout sessions on Leadership & Change Management; Workforce Needs; New Technologies; and Scale-Up Strategies. The feedback from the meeting will continue to guide the implementation of the original AMP recommendations, including the creation of the National Network for Manufacturing Innovation. *AMP is a national initiative under the directive of the Obama Administration. Georgia Tech’s President, G.P. “Bud” Peterson serves on the steering committee for AMP 2.0.
