Our New By-Laws

Dear Members,

In May 2012, your association began a governance review to re-evaluate our governance structure and to guide us in revising our by-laws to comply with the new Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act (NFP Act). Last fall, we set up a governance portal in the Members Only section of our website, which includes information about the review process, the proposed changes and a helpful FAQ. We also hosted a series of webinars for members who were interested in learning more about the governance review. (You can listen to recordings of the webinars here.)

By-Laws Now Ready for Member Review

Thank you to all members who provided feedback during the first consultation period of our governance review (October 2013). Your feedback was instrumental in helping us develop the new by-laws, which are now ready for your review. These by-laws have been approved in-principle by your Board of Directors and carefully reviewed by our lawyer to ensure that they are in compliance with the NFP Act. (All Canadian not-for-profits must be in compliance with the new NFP Act by October 17, 2014.)

We are now officially in the second consultation period (February 20 to March 20, 2014). I encourage all members to read the new by-laws and send feedback to by-law@sac-oac.ca by March 20. We've also developed a by-laws FAQ to help answer questions you may have.

Thank you in advance for participating in this important process.

Sincerely,
