Buddy Werner Update #4

Registration for the Buddy Werner U14 Championships at Crystal Mountain is open until March 7. Also Buddy Werner 2014 sweatshirts went on sale yesterday and will be available by preorder only through next Friday, Feb. 28. Order sweatshirts here.  Please get the word out to your teams so that no one who wants one misses out!
 
Below you’ll find answers to questions that have come up since our last update and some reminders, including items requiring your action.
 
SUMMARY of ACTION NEEDED:

1. Let your team know that Buddy’s registration is open. Registration deadline – March 7!
2. Pass on the link to purchase event sweatshirts. Preorder only by Feb. 28!
3. Get some kids on your team to start making your Team Video. Deadline - March 1st.
4. Provide Seeding information by March 3.
5. Bring a team banner and an item that “glows” for each racer for the Athletes Activities.
6. Share our links with your parents: volunteer opportunities, web site, BWC Facebook page.
7. Let us know where your team is staying by responding to this email 

NEW INFORMATION:
Seeding – Seeding for each discipline is due on Monday, March 3 to RaceAdmin@cmacskiracing.com. The date has been extended to allow for inclusion of results from the races over March 1-2.
 
Skills Quest – We are excited to let you know that 3 or 4 Certified Skills Quest Officials will be in attendance and will be facilitating the Skills Quest events on Friday. Awards will be given for the top ten scores in Men and Women.

Racer Parent Expo & Social –while the athletes are attending their Athlete Banquet on Saturday evening, there will be a no-host bar in the tent with a Racer Parent Expo. Exhibitors at the Expo will provide a plethora of valuable information for parents as their racer continues in this sport. Parents are encouraged to stay on the mountain Saturday evening for the Expo & Social and for dinner so they are available for the Parade and Awards which will begin about 6:45 Saturday evening.
 
Meal Options at Crystal – For meal planning while at Crystal, see the Crystal Food Service Map available here. You can get phone numbers to make reservations by downloading the Crystal Mountain App and clicking “Dining.” We strongly encourage parents and coaches to eat on the mountain on Saturday evening while the racers are attending the Athlete Banquet so you are available to watch the athlete Parade and Awards on Saturday evening. The Cascade Grill in the main lodge will be staying open until 7 Saturday evening, and other options are listed on the Map.
 
A Special Lunch Option on Sunday ONLY – The Alpine Inn will provide a special pizza buffet lunch for racers and their families on Sunday, March 16 from 11:15 to 1:30. The buffet lunch includes pizza, mixed green salad, cookies, coffee, tea and soda for only $11 per person + taxes/fees. Reservations and pre-payment are required for this meal option. Contact the Alpine Inn directly to make your reservations and to prepay 360-663-2262 or email reservations@cystalhotels.com.
 
REMINDERS:
Athlete Activities – Please prepare your teams for the following team activities.

1. Team Banner – Bring a team banner for use at the Friday night social and the Parade.
    
2. Team Video – We ask each club to make a 60-90 second video about their team. We’ll compile and share these videos with all the teams during the weekend. CMAC’s U14 team will be posting videos on the Buddy Werner Facebook page as an example. See the video instructions below for details. Don’t wait - ask your racers to get started on their video right away – we need to receive your Team Video by March 1.  See our first sample video on the Buddy Werner Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/BWC2014.
    

3. Athlete’s Torch Light Parade – After the Athlete Banquet, happening mid-mountain, the athletes will be skiing down at dusk. At the final drop to the base, each team will ski down as a group to form a parade. Each team should bring something that “glows” for each athlete to wear or hold in the parade (no fire). Coaches are asked to attend the banquet and help with the parade. Parents will be invited to watch the parade from the base of the ski area.

Housing – Please let us know where your team is staying by responding to this email. 

Volunteering - Race volunteer sign up is here. We need your help. In exchange, Crystal Mountain will provide a lift ticket voucher to each volunteer for each day worked.  Vouchers can be used during Buddy’s weekend or any other time during the 2014 season. Please pass this information on to your team parents.

Buddy Werner Team Video Instructions:

1. 60-90 seconds long
2. Your U14 athletes should film and edit the video
3. Enhance your video with music
4. Use your video to introduce your team to the other U14 teams.
5. Must include footage of your team skiing
6. Use your phone, Go-pro, iPad – whatever you need for this fun team project – keep it fun and funny!
