Family Permaculture Course

6 - 10 August 2014

Allanton World Peace Sanctuary, Dumfries, Scotland

This year Allanton World Peace Sanctuary would like to offer families the
opportunity to explore their stunning location – with beautiful woodland, 2 acre walled
garden, labyrinth, old mansion house, bothy, camping area, & campfire – whilst
learning about permaculture. There will be times to play, share and learn all together
– for example in morning circles, games, stories, campfire cooking, gardening, and
some specific topics. Whilst at other time we will split into groups to learn and play
age-appropriately.

Sliding scale prices: £100 - £460

Bookings and full course info: courses@jameschapman.org.uk

Certificate
We will issue our own certificate of completion of the course for attendees.
In addition, the course can count as between 1 and 2.5 modules of a full permaculture
design course . If you would like to do the full design course, accredited by the
Permaculture Association (Britain), then you can complete the course in Scotland, on
any of the modular courses run in Scotland, such as those run in Glasgow, Edinburgh,
Kilmartin or Coldstream.
Family Permaculture

A family permaculture experience will enable both you and your children to learn about permaculture whilst having lots of fun, spending most of your days in nature. You can camp or take a family room in the majestic old home for 5 days of learning, playing and experiencing permaculture together. There will be a mix of activities for the whole family to participate together, and times we split into groups for age-appropriate learning.

Venue Information

Allanton World Peace Sanctuary is a warm and tranquil place for events that fit in
with our way of living.  Inside the beautiful old stately home is a conference room,
peace room, reception, kitchen, dining room, as well as twin, double, and family rooms.
Outside facilities include a bothy, camping area, fire circle, 2 acre walled garden
(with polytunnel), compost loos, labyrinth, woodlands, and lovely views.

Food

All meals will be vegetarian. If you have special dietary requirements, then please let
us know when booking. Food will be included in the price of the course, and we will be
preparing it ourselves in small groups, sometimes cooking on the open fire, and
sometimes in the kitchen, on a rota system.

Kids activities

Free play, gardening, carving, climbing trees, playing games, and running are all
important for kids too, so we will be flexible and responsive to what the kids want to
do. For example if the topic is tree ID, the kids can have some fun activities to spot
different types of trees, whilst running around the woods, climbing trees, making
bows and arrows, playing hide and seek, and much more tree fun!

Teenagers activities

Teenagers may want to join the adults, or the children (where they could maybe lead
some activities or games), or to do their own thing. Things teenagers may be doing
include fire-making, carving, shelter-building, and gardening. There are 17
acres of land to explore, so plenty of space to walk in this beautiful country setting.
