Now for a quick moment, before I share the recipe, I want to shine a light on one an inspiring friend!  Marcus (Déva) is the founder and teacher with Permaculture Miami- generating sustainable designs and new designers since 2008 throughout south Florida and the world. He has produced many permaculture design projects and has lead countless workshops, events, courses and retreats around the world.  His latest passion project has been to create a book and a music album on Permaculture.

"These memoirs (memories and interpretations of life's worldly experiences) have been documented from January 2011 - December 2013 and eloquently portrays a quest of a Permaculture teacher traveling the globe and scribing/singing about his renewed perspective in shifting the world at large."

Superhero Elixir, Serves 1-2
for recipe videos click here.

Drinking a creamy, nutrient-packed elixir in the morning is a great way to start the day, especially if you have to be on your Superhero grind!  This smoothie packs a wholesome dose of body-loving fats, proteins and carbohydrates, and it tastes yummy to boot.  The protein powder addition is up to you!  I personally like to add it to my smoothies, and I love how my body feels using a plant-based source because it gives it clean energy that lasts.  Also, keep an eye out for a DIY tutorial for sprouting buckwheat--it's incredibly easy, not to mention a surprising nutritional powerhouse!

Ingredients

1/4-1/2 avocado, kitchen tidbit: adding avocado to smoothies makes them deliciously creamy and thick!
1 frozen banana, chopped
1/4 cup frozen berries
1-2 medjool dates, pitted
1 1/2 cups almond/coconut milk, unsweetened
1/2 cup young coconut water (a great source of natural electrolytes + adds sweetness!), optional *if using you can lessen the amount of milk by a bit
A serving of fresh herbs, I like wild oregano, rosemary and sweet mint... depends on what I'm feeling
1-2 scoops protein powder, I like to use Jarrow's Optimal Plant Proteins (it has chlorella as well)
1 tsp spirulina, or some other powdered greens like wheat grass
1 tsp cod liver oil, or flaxseed oil for vegan option
1-2 tbl sprouted buckwheat, optional (adds a little crunch + it's naturally gluten-free)*
1 tsp bee pollen, optional

Directions

1.  Add the ingredients from avocado to the spirulina to the blender.  I like to add the fruits first, so the powders don't get stuck under the blades.
2.  Blend till smooth!

3.  Pour into a cup fit for a superhero, and stir in oil, sprouted buckwheat, and bee pollen if using.
4.  Enjoy the power of this tasty superfood elixir!
