Surf Club News

Hi Clubbies

It's been a busy summer here at Titahi Bay SLSC with a lot happening since our last newsletter: below are some highlights and key upcoming dates to be aware of...

Firstly, the club would like to welcome back and extend a massive congratulations to the Open Men’s crew who have returned from Stockton Beach in Australia where they were representing New Zealand in the Trans-Tasman surf boat competition.
The rowers were: Noobie Boyd, Jono Boyd, Dean Ellis, Jordan Te Paa and Wil McDowell (sweep).
The club also wish to congratulate Marty McDowell for his recent success at the Eastern Region championships in Whangamata.  Marty powered through a strong field of competitors to win the Open Men's ski final comfortably. Yesterday, Marty picked up a significant victory, winning his first K1 1000m title at the Kayak Sprint Nationals.  Way to go Marty!
Junior Surf
It has been fantastic to see so many Titahi Bay Nippers attending carnivals and Sunday trainings! Many of our young competitors placed at the recent Wellington Champs, in addition to a great deal of other good results! Official results from the carnivals will be out soon.
Good luck to our 15 competitors who take off next week to compete at the New Zealand U'14 Nationals - Oceans'14! Thanks to Nick Mulcahy for his coaching, it has benefited the team hugely! Results will be posted on the Nipper Facebook page daily.
Nationals
Entries for Nationals close on Thursday 20th Februrary 2014.

There will be a meeting at the club on Tuesday 18th February at 6pm for all competitors going to Nationals to discuss travel arrangements, accommodation and what events you wish to compete in.
FitzTahi Shield
Once again Titahi Bay and Fitzroy will compete for the historic ‘Fitztahi Shield’ at the National Surf Life Saving Champs. We look forward to catching up with Fitzroy SLSC on the beach again!
Collection Day
Thanks to all club members and families who helped on the Surf Life Saving NZ National Appeal day, it was a great success!
Keep a look out for Titahi Bay clubbies at the Phoenix football match on Sunday night- there will be a Guard of Honour made up of green Titahi Bay sweatshirts at the beginning of the game, plus an appearance at half time as they drag the Hyundai sign onto to the pitch.
OPSM Partnership
SLSNZ have a partnership with eye-care company OPSM and this year they have donated vouchers for all financial club members: $50 off for associates and $100 off for active members (both require a purchase). To get your discount voucher please contact Suzette at admin@titahibayslsc.org.nz.
