Muse 2014 Going Fast!


Here are just five things you can do at Muse 2014:
  1. Sit face-to-face with a literary agent or editor and discuss the pages of your manuscript in person.   
  2. Work closely with four coaches and in small groups with other writers to develop a strategic plan for your writing career
  3. Get feedback on your personal website and online presence from seasoned web experts.
  4. Study craft with eleven different established authors,  including Pam Houston, Augusten Burroughs and Roxane Gay. 
  5. Talk Muse with Walter Mosley and Marketplace with Jane Friedman

For those of you interested in the Memoir Incubator with Alexandria Marzano-Lesnevich, we will be holding our final Open House for the program on Tuesday, February 25th at 6pm. This will be an info session with the instructor and alumni where we'll answer all your questions about the application process and how the program works. 

For you novelists, stop procrastinating! The deadline for the Novel Incubator is next Friday, February 28th at 5pm

Wise Latinas: Shaping the Personal Essay
Free Event -- Thursday March 6th from 6:30-8pm


Come celebrate the release of a groundbreaking creative nonfiction anthology, Wise Latinas: Writers on Higher Education. Join editor Jennifer De Leon and contributors Iris Gomez and Daisy Hernández as they share their narratives and provide crucial insight into the complex intersection of race, class, and identity in higher education, dispelling myths and showcasing the diversity of one community’s experiences. Come out to listen to poets Grey Held, Sue Owen, and Gary Whitehead at the Center for the Arts at the Armory, part of the First and Last Word Poetry series, hosted by Harris Gardener and Gloria Mindock. -- FUNDRAISER: February 18th - March 31st, 826 Boston Write-A-Thon
From February 18th to March 31st, 826 Boston will hold its annual volunteer fundraiser, the Write-A-Thon, to benefit its free youth writing and tutoring programs. A series of write-ins, dance parties, and trivia nights will be held throughout the six weeks to celebrate the fundraising efforts of Write-A-Thon participants. -- AUTHOR EVENT: Friday, February 21st-22nd, Big Book Getaway at Mohegan Sun
Presented by the Mark Twain House and Museum, the Big Book Getaway is a way to escape to a fabulous resort only a 2-hr car ride from Boston, converge with other book lovers and meet celebrated authors. -- NOVEL RETREAT: May 20-26, 2014, Vermont College of Fine Arts
Join Vermont College of Fine Arts for the first ever Novel Retreat, where emerging and established writers will come to hone their craft and join a legendary community of likeminded artists. The retreat is specifically designed to provide participants with concentrated blocks of writing time in an environment that fosters and sustains emerging novelists. -- WRITING CAMP: July 13-18, 2014, Martha's Vineyard Institute of Creative Writing
Each summer, Martha's Vineyard Institute of Creative Writing invites published authors and poets, literary journal editors, and university creative writing faculty to lead writing workshops, work one-on-one with writers, and provide the necessary tips and tools for editing and publishing their work. -- SEEKING SENIOR CITIZENS: Free Memoir Class For Seniors
Grub Street, Inc. and the Elderly Commission's free Memoir Project class is coming to DORCHESTER! The Memoir Project aims to capture the stories of Boston’s over 60 residents by teaching the basics of memoir writing. An essay from each participant will be published in a collected volume. The free class will run from late March to early May on Thursdays from 10am – 1pm (with lunch provided) at a location to be announced. No writing experience necessary, just life experience! -- OPEN SUBMISSIONS: Day One
Day One is a weekly literary journal dedicated to short fiction from debut writers, English translations of stories from around the world, and poetry. Each issue showcases one writer and poet and includes an introduction from the editor, an interview with the authors, and occasional bonus content.  It’s a wonderful opportunity for writers to reach a new audience via digital publishing; all contributors are paid. Looking for original short fiction from debut and emerging writers (Up to ~20,000 words), and poetry from emerging poets. To submit, please email the story or poem as a word document, along with a brief description and author bio to dayone-submissions@amazon.com.
