Dear Readers,
This weekend I came across James Wood's recent piece "On Not Going Home" in the London Review of Books. James Wood, a British native who's lived in the U.S. for eighteen years, talks about the "unreality" of building a life in a foreign place -- the "light veil" and faint sense of fiction that places everything at a distance. The piece landed on some familiar chords. If anyone else has read the essay, I'd be curious to hear what you think.
The headlines this week are that Readux Books is releasing its second series, and that the Steglitz Museum is running an exhibit on Kafka's time in Berlin. Beyond these announcements, I've included a collection of links to the best Berlin bookstore guides I've found online.

Readux Books Releases Series #2
Büchner Prizewinners and Beyond, in Miniature
“Life and death—under water, and in the sky. Sinister picnics. Hellish cafeterias. Excellent, achingly good stories.” So was Amanda DeMarco's preview of Readux Books Series #2 in a recent interview with Slow Travel Berlin. Now the books have been revealed. Readux, a publisher of short and (mostly) translated literature, has released four new titles by award-winning authors and translators: Flight, When the Heart Drowns in its Own Blood, The Lesson, and Picnic of the Virtues. Paperback copies are $4.99, e-book copies $1.99, and pre-orders will ship on February 24.

Franz Kafka Exhibit Opens in Steglitz
A Look at the Author's Last Months in Berlin
While Kafka always considered himself a wanderer, he did briefly settle in Steglitz. His reflections on his time in Berlin are the subject of a newly opened Kafka display at the Steglitz Museum, which runs until July 2014. The exhibit is in German, and entry is open from 3pm - 6pm on Tuesdays - Fridays and Sundays.
