Animal Safety
Did you know driving with your dog unrestrained is illegal in NSW?
Not only is it illegal in the back of a ute but it is also illegal inside the vehicle.
Two reasons: In the event of an accident, it is as unsafe for your dog to go without a seatbelt as you, and unrestrained dogs can turn into lethal weapons injuring people in the vehicle.
Your dog must be wearing an RMS (formerly RTA) certified harness whilst travelling in the car to comply with road rules. Three demerit points and a fine are given when dogs are not restrained properly.
We stock Purina Roadie harnesses for your convenience, one of only two harnesses to pass a 2013 NRMA crash test.

Osteoarthritis and Our Pets
Osteoarthritis, sometimes simply referred to as arthritis, is a degenerative joint disease where over time cartilage fragments break off and cause the immune system to respond with pain and inflammation in an attempt to immobilise an animal and protect the joint from further damage.
The disease develops over a long period of time and only when the disease is well progressed do any symptoms begin to show. In the latter stages, osteoarthritis becomes a debilitating and painful disease that can greatly affect the quality of life of your pet. Unfortunately, it is one of the leading reasons that owners get their pets euthanised, but there is plenty that owners can do to prevent the painful and debilitating effects of osteoarthritis.
Signs:
- Reduced mobility
- Reduced activity
- Altered grooming (cats)
- Temperament changes
Treatment:
- Soft and warm bedding
- Steps or ramps to favoured areas of the house and yard
- Mouth level food and water bowls
- Extra grooming by owners to give them a break (cats)
- Zydax & Glyde
- Metacam
If you feel your dog or cat is showing signs or to enquire about a preventative joint program, speak to your vet. |
