Weekly Opportunities & Events

Must be Photoshopped. There's not even like a LITTLE snow.
Today we felt the need to mine our archives and remind ourselves what T-shirt weather looks like. This is from last May when VSO worked with The Nature Conservancy to help maintain Vermont's backcountry.

Help young families at PCC
Addison County Parent/Child Center is an award-winning not-for-profit that supports young parents and their children. Among other things, PCC provides food, day care, and high school equivalency classes from their office across the street from Middlebury Union High School. They have a longstanding volunteer relationship with the College's student body and depend on student volunteers for many of their most critical support systems for local families. Whether you're interested in a one-time gig chopping vegetables or a sustained weekly commitment looking after the little ones, PCC could use your help! Contact Becky Bertrand for further information and opportunities.

Volunteer with Midd Buddies
Midd Buddies is a group of student volunteers that visits Middlebury Union High School a couple times a week to hang out with an awesome group of students in the Diversified Occupations Program, a regional special education program for high schoolers with specific academic, vocational and behavioral needs. Midd Buddies seeks additional volunteers who are energetic, outgoing, and enjoy engaging with teens, whether through basketball, Frisbee, helping practice for talent shows or playing board games. Contact Faith Whang ‘15 to learn more and get added to the volunteer list!

Help staff the Sustainable Living Expo
The Sustainable Living Expo is an annual day-long exposition that hosts hundreds of exhibits, presentations and workshops promoting sustainable living in the Champlain Valley. This year's SLE will be held Saturday 3/29 at Middlebury Union High School. They expect more than a thousand visitors this year! They need volunteers for everything from setting up Friday night, greeting people at the front table, assisting exhibitors, monitoring workshops, directing traffic, and supervising little ones in the children’s playroom. Volunteers will get first-hand experience at event planning, meet new people, have fun, and get a free Expo t-shirt! If you would like to be an Expo volunteer, email the manager of ACORN, Lea Calderon-Guthe.

Community Friends Feature of the Week
Enjoy reading, swimming or outside activities? Community Friends, a campus-based one-on-one mentoring program that matches Middlebury students with Addison County children ages six to twelve, is seeking a big sister for a ten-year old girl who is in need of “someone kind and loving." Interested? The only requirements to become a CF mentor are enthusiasm and the willingness to build a meaningful, consistent relationship. You would meet with your mentee for two hours a week, flexible to your schedule. For more information about CF and how to apply to become a mentor, please visit their website at go/cf or email them at comfriends@middlebury.edu.
