VAW goes to Guatemala in May

Middlebury’s chapter of Volunteers Around the World is looking for students who are interested in joining its 2014 summer trip to Guatemala. Trip volunteers will help run mobile medical clinics in rural parts of the country near Lake Atitlán, gaining cross-cultural medical and public health experience by shadowing local doctors, performing triage, providing medications to patients in need, and teaching public health classes in local schools. The group flies out May 27 and will last between ten and fourteen days. They will meet Thursday nights at 8 PM throughout the semester to prepare for the trip. Please contact Sara Sobolewski '14 if interested!

BCS volunteer interest survey
Did you know Middlebury College recently adopted Bridport Central School's combined 4th/5th grade classroom? The CE office is very excited about this new Panther-to-Panther, Ashoka-to-Ashoka partnership! BCS would like to help us help them in terms of drumming up volunteer support, so they drew up a survey for people to let them know when and how they would like to volunteer at BCS. Please take a moment to fill out their survey and let them know what you think. Big thanks!

Community Friends Feature of the Week
Do you enjoy dancing, crafts or reading Harry Potter? Community Friends is seeking a big sister for a ten-year old girl in need of a role model who “loves girl things” as well as the above. Interested? The only requirements to become a CF mentor are enthusiasm and the willingness to build a meaningful, consistent relationship. You would meet with your mentee for two hours a week, flexible to your schedule. For more information about CF and how to apply to become a mentor, please visit our website at go/cf or email us at comfriends@middlebury.edu.

If you have questions about any of these volunteer opportunities or you want to learn even more opportunities to get involved with the communities above, contact Ashley Calkins, Associate Director of Community Engagement. She'll be out of the office until this Wednesday 3/5, so until then please forward your inquiries to the general Community Engagement email.
