Emergency Situation Day with Marshfield Clinic

Emergency Training Athletic trainers from Marshfield Clinic came to campus to provide opportunities for senior athletic training students to have real-time practice with emergencies. Awards flood in for student-athletes, coaches

  • Myranda Tyler Men's Basketball: Tyler Tillema (business administration) was named the WIAC Player of the Year and Bob Semling was chosen as the WIAC Coach of the Year. The Pointers, who won their 28th regular-season league title, defeated Marian and Central last weekend to advance to the Sweet 16 and will host games this weekend.
  • Women's Basketball: Myranda Tyler (business administration-management and business administration-marketing) was selected as the WIAC Judy Kruckman Co-Scholar Athlete of the Year.
  • Men's Hockey: Garrett Ladd (business administration) was named the inaugural WIAC Player of the Year. The Pointers earned their first NCAA Tournament berth since 1998 and will play at St. Thomas Saturday.
  • Women's Hockey: Cassandra Salmen (athletic training) was named the WIAC Player of the Year and Ann Ninnemann was WIAC Coach of the Year. The Pointers, who received an at-large bid [video], will host St. Thomas Friday in their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2007.
  • Women's Track & Field: Sam Haas broke the school record in pole vault, solidifying her trip to the NCAA Championships.

CPS Continuing Education awards Course Development Grants

C.R. MarshallTracy Hoefer, C.R. Marshall and Scott Wallace (SBE) each received grants to redesign three courses to online formats so they can be made available to non-traditional audiences. Demand for these courses is expected from students enrolled in our Business at Night, and Business at UWMC programs. The courses to be redesigned are International Economics, Principles of Production-Operations Management, and Business and Government.

Kristi Roth (PEAT) received funding to redesign our Advanced Assessment in Adapted Physical Education course to a hybrid format. As a hybrid, this course will be made available to teachers from throughout the state of Wisconsin who wish to attain the Wisconsin Adapted Physical Education Certification. 
 
Since 2004, CPS has awarded more than $420,000 to faculty for the purpose of innovating courses and creating new programs. To be successful, CPS Continuing Education grants must be innovative, partnership driven and meet a clear need.


Marty's Message:

Dean Loy asked me to share a bit about my role in the college. When I tell people I am a director of development they often say, "So you are a fund raiser." My reply is usually "No, more a match-maker of sorts." My job is to connect alumni and donors with their particular interests in the college and give them an up close view of what we do. An important outcome of my work is helping individuals reach a point where they feel good about making a gift that will help advance our college’s mission, which often comes in the form of a scholarship or program fund.

Another aspect of my job, and probably the most fulfilling, is sharing with donors the true impact of their giving. In my very first year at UWSP I have had the opportunity, along-side Dean Loy and many of our faculty members, to meet some pretty incredible people who care about how we are advancing learning and enhancing quality of life in our community and beyond. Rose Petersen, who will read about in this Monday Message, is one of those people who I had the great privilege of knowing. She was a very special lady who cared a great deal about what we were doing in the area of early childhood education. She will be missed by us all.

I don’t want to claim that my job is easy, but being in a college filled with amazing people and programs sure does make it enjoyable. This is a special time for our college as we pursue our goals throughout the course of the UW-Stevens Point Partnership for Thriving Communities campaign. Thanks to everyone in the College of Professional Studies, past and present, we have so much to look forward to in the coming months and years of this campaign.
