Ole Wanscher (1903–1985).

Ole Wanscher designs are described as “delicate, elegant and orderly”.

Wanscher studied at the Danish School of Art and Design, became a student of Kaare Klint, and later a Professor at the Furniture School at the Royal Academy in Copenhagen. Taking a cue from his father, an art historian, Wanscher published several histories of furniture design, including The History of the Art of Furniture and Five Thousand Years of FurnitureWanscher was inspired by classical English 18th century furniture, ancient Egypt and traditional Chinese design.

These early furniture periods influenced his designs which are now seen as modern classics. Wanscher was a key figure in the Scandinavian Design movement (Mid-Century Modernism), a period of furniture which remains appealing, comfortable and sought-after.
