Lincoln, NE — While General Excavating has developed a reputation for tackling difficult utility work, even our project managers sometimes wonder if they have gotten themselves in over their head.  Take the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s North Cooling Tower Replacement Project where General Excavating, working as a subcontractor to H&S Plumbing and Heating, is tasked with installing 42” ductile iron pipe as part of an upgrade at the city campus utility plant. Construction of the new supply line is taking place between the cooling tower foundation and an existing steam tunnel in a trench close to 12’ deep with very little room to maneuver equipment or materials.  Following the design of Lutz, Daily & Brain, the consulting engineers, General Excavating will also construct a valve vault, restore the site, and complete appurtenant work.
