Get ready to join us at Park Royal South for Lighthouse Festival 2014, a showcase highlighting the exceptional artistic talents of staff and students in all 17 of our public schools. This year's event will also include an exciting, new alumni and student arts event, SD45One, at the West Vancouver Museum. Some of the WVSD alumni participating include Douglas Coupland, Ross Penhall and Bobbie Burgurs.

Have an aspiring writer in Grade 6 or 7 in the family? The fifth annual MP award for writing is accepting entries until March 31.

Last year's winners included Qayam Devji, Piper Kufeldt, Aydin Rezazadeh, Ryan Stack and Nadia Chigmaroff.

CTV national features Irwin Park kids
Some of the students taking part in Irwin Park’s Winter Sports programs were featured on CTV national news last month for a story by Melanie Nagy. The students were involved in skating at the West Vancouver Community Centre and skiing up at Cypress Mountain.

Several contractors will be offering camps this summer to students in the West Vancouver School District. From teen travel to art, engineering and sport options, there's something for every age and interest.

Theatre 45 to instill a passion for performance
Playbuilding, a pilot program being offered to students in Grades 4-7 at Hollyburn, Irwin Park and Ridgeview elementary schools is currently taking registration, but filling up quickly. Taught by a graduate of Studio 58 with long experience as part of Vancouver's vibrant theatre scene, students will have the opportunity to develop creativity, focus, teamwork and leadership skills April 2-May 7 after school.
