HSR Meeting 15-16 May 2014 The international dimension in comparative HSR
The call for abstracts for our May meeting is now closed. In a next newsletter we will announce the full
programme. We are happy to let you know that a keynote opening presentation will be provided by Prof
Jane Hall, Director of Strategy of the Centre for Health Economics Research & Evaluation in Sidney
and past president of the HSR Association of Australia and New Zealand (HSRAANZ). Information

Health Services Research workshops at EUPHA conference Glasgow
The upcoming EUPHA conference themed “Mind the gap: Reducing inequalities in health and health
care” will take place from 19-22 November 2014 in Glasgow, Scotland. Abstract submission is open
until 1 May. The EUPHA Section on HSR would like to encourage everyone to submit HSR related
presentations and workshops. Topic ideas mentioned at the last EUPHA conference include a workshop
on good practices in implementation processes, one on the relationship between HSR and HTA, on
practice variation and inappropriate care and on the interface between health and social services.
If you would like to be involved in any of these workshops or would like advice on organising another

• The World Health Organization published a Global atlas of palliative care at the end of life
• The EC had a press release with Questions and Answers on the Third Health Programme
• The European Society for Health and Medical Sociology organizes a conference on Health and
   Welfare Challenges in Europe, 28-30 August Helsinki (deadline call for abstracts 28 February)
• Upcoming one-day EC conference on fairness and equity in health in Europe on 18 March, Brussels
• The Third Global Symposium on Health Systems Research will take place on 30 September-3 
  October, Cape Town (deadline call for abstracts 3 March)
