Roots & Wings' doors are now open and the first four children have been joyously welcomed! We first introduced you to the Segundo siblings back in May 2013, just one month after we arrived in Mazatlan. These four little ones lost their father in March of 2013. He died due to injuries he sustained in a rehabilitation center. Their father was an alcoholic and was admitted into the center against his will. He was bound, beaten and tortured before being left for dead. Then, only a few months later, these siblings had another family member torn away as their grandmother was arrested and taken to prison for a crime committed by her son. It is unknown when or if she will ever be released. The oldest suddenly found himself responsible with caring for his three younger siblings so their mother could go to work in the garbage dump. And through it all, they have watched their young mom battle with depression, experience constant anxiety attacks, and deal with abusive family members. As we have gotten to know this family and learned the story of four young lives filled with so much heartache and pain, we have grown more and more certain that God undoubtedly placed them in our lives for a reason. So, it is no surprise that they make up the first four children to enter the Roots & Wings family!
