Scientific evidence proves that climate change exacerbates the frequency of extreme weather events and natural disasters. According to an article in Nature, unpredictable weather events such as drought and floods "accounted for about 90% of the year’s 820 recorded natural disasters” in 2011.

Farmers in drought-stricken NW to receive lifeline


Northern Cape drought1Farmers in the drought-stricken North West province and the Northern Cape are to receive a lifeline of over 2,000 tons of cattle feed. The drought has left farmers desperate as they watch their herds suffer, but now their colleagues in the Western Cape have come to the rescue, donating 2 300 tons of feed.

Green Climate Fund to allocate funds to adaptation


green climate fundThe board of the fledgling U.N. Green Climate Fund, which is likely to handle billions of dollars in climate finance in the coming years, has decided to aim for an equal "50:50" balance between funding for climate change mitigation and adaptation "over time". “Decisions taken this week ensure that the Fund can help developing countries to cope with the devastating impacts of climate change and become more climate-resilient," the board's co-chair Jose Maria Sarte Salceda of the Philippines said in a statement.
