K-12 Teacher Workshops and Summer Teacher Institutes!

Latin American Resource Center

February 2014 

As February draws to a close, Tulane's Latin American Resource Center is gearing up for three spring teacher workshops and planning a summer institute in Cuba.

The first upcoming teacher workshop is for language teachers.  It will focus on pedagogy in the classroom and be held on Tulane's campus March 19th.  In collaboration with Tulane's Middle American Research Institute and the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas, the LARC will once again host the annual teacher workshop on the Maya before the Tulane Maya Symposium March 20 - March 23, 2014. Our third teacher workshop, in collaboration with Xavier University, is on the literacy campaign in Cuba featuring the film, Maestra and filmmaker Catherine Murphy March 29, 2014.  Don't forget to register for these exciting workshops!  

Gulf South K-12 teachers are eligible to apply for the annual CLASP/NRC Teacher Training Network Grant. This grant is provided to local teachers interested in participating in any participating Consortium of Latin American Studies Programs (CLASP) institute summer teacher institute (grant cannot be used for Tulane institutes). Deadline to apply for funding is April 30, 2014.

LARC is excited to be recruiting K-12 teachers to travel to Havana, Cuba this summer for a summer teacher institute, Cuban Culture & Society, June 21 - July 5, 2014.  Deadline to apply is March 28, 2014. 
The Pebbles Center celebrates 10 years in April! Celebrate with us and children's book author Jorge Argueta on April 30th from 5 - 7 PM.  The celebrations coincide with Dia, a celebration of children and reading!
