Makers as Trainers and Employers

Craft Apprenticeships & Internships in the South East & Hampshire

 

Training programme
28th March at Making Space, Havant, Hampshire, 11.30am - 4.30pm
and
8th April at Farnham Maltings, Surrey, 10am - 4pm



Who is the programme for?

Established Makers are invited to participate in two days of training designed to equip makers with the knowledge and skills to take a step towards taking on an apprentice/intern, either as a sole trader or part of a consortium. 

Making Space is offering a total of 10 sponsored and 10 unsponsored places for a two day training event. Makers can attend as individuals or propose up to two additional people who might become potential consortium members. Additional consortium members would also qualify for sponsored place. 

Conditions of Acceptance:
 
  1. Participants to attend both training days. For consortia attendance can be shared.
  2. Participants to prepare for the training by completing an Identifying Key Skills – Diagnostics worksheet.  (Available upon booking)
 
Consortia could comprise any of the following - individual practitioners, studio groups, craft development agencies, independent curators and producers.
 
What is the format?
The format for the programme is a series of interlinked modules with presentations by makers and industry experts, including Margo Selby, Julian StairCynthia Cousens Design Trust, Craft Central, Making Space with Frances Lord, Crafts Council and CCSkills.  Agenda available once booking has been confirmed.
 
Funding
Making Space has a pot of funding to support makers for up to £150 a day as a contribution towards time and travel expenses to attend the training days.   
 
Host Bursaries
Four bursaries of £500 will be awarded to individuals or consortia attending both Training Days to help towards funding a pilot placement for a total of 5 days.

The completed forms need to be emailed to admin@makingspace.org. Places are first come first served. You will receive a response from Making Space confirming your place within one week. At this stage you will also be sent an agenda.
