Welcome to Martha Kisling's Creative Watercolor!

We are starting to see signs of spring here in Colorado and it always inspires me to use brighter colors in my paintings. Last month we focused on using different color combinations in my weekly classes and I just finished a four week session of painting spring Flowers in Watercolor for the Fine Art Center. How does warmer weather inspire you creatively?

Be sure to check out my blog to see past postings and more of my art and you can also subscribe to this newsletter if you haven't already. Check out past newsletters here.

After fourteen years we had to say good bye to our wonderful golden, Ginger. She was born on New Year's Day, 2000 when we lived in South Carolina and the kids were young. She was there for them as they grew into adults and was a wonderful dog with a sweet disposition. Even though she had slowed down the last few years she still enjoyed being outside, playing in the snow and taking a roll in the mulch - she will be dearly missed.

Work in Series

The goal for my new 2014 Creative Corner has been to try something new each month - different techniques, new mediums, mixed media, fun colors - anything goes. For this month, I decided to draw with masking fluid before painting, use bright colors and to work in a series of several florals at once. I filled a syringe with masking fluid to create the fine lines on several  bouquets of flowers and was happy with the overall look it created. The beauty of working on several paintings at once is that you don't stress over every little detail and feel freer to just go for it.

New in Etsy Shop
My 'About' Page

While trying to keep up with creating new art, teaching, blogging and posting paintings, I sometimes fall behind in other areas. The other day I realized that I had never created my 'About' page for my Etsy Shop so I got busy and you can now check out the art pics and bio info here

Art Blog
Watercolor Batiks

I try to post to my blog several times a week to keep everyone updated on my art. One of the fun things about a blog is that you can view present and past paintings by topic or category - see all of my watercolor batiks here

I would love it if you checked out my Facebook Creative Painting page!

Watercolor Workshop Fun

In my last workshop we experimented with using creative line work to enhance watercolor florals. The artists that attended came from all over Colorado - Denver, Castle Rock, Woodland Park, Colorado Springs and Pueblo - along with Jan who drove all the way from Lubbock, Texas.
My next workshop is on March 15 and we will paint sunflowers using watercolor batik. You can find more info on that and all my workshops on my website - come join us and put a little color in your life!

Weekly Classes
February Colors

My weekly classes focused on color schemes for the month of February - complements, analogous, split complementary and triads. A triadic color scheme uses three colors that are equally spaced on the color wheel - the primary, secondary or tertiary colors.  For LOWCOUNTRY COLORS I used three tertiary colors, yellow green, red purple and yellow orange. Picking a color combination before you start painting forces you to be more artistic in your use and application of color and results in a more creative art piece. Next month, we will focus on the Positive Results of Negative Painting.
