What is 40 Days for Life?
Prayer and fasting:
Christ told us that some demons can only be driven out by prayer and fasting. The two go hand in hand.
Constant vigil:
40 Days for Life's most visible aspect is a peaceful prayer vigil outside an abortion facility.
Community outreach:
During 40 Days for Life, the message is proactively taken to the community through focused efforts.
Go to the following website to learn more and to sign-up for a peaceful prayer vigil at the Milwaukee location:

Holy Hour for Life

Deacon Eric Sewell led the Holy Hour for Life on the eve of the anniversary date of the tragic Roe vs. Wade decision. Many Knights were in attendance since January 21st was the same night as our 1st degree and business meeting.

Faith Formation

A Ladder to Heaven is the Lenten program running on Sunday evenings and Thursday mornings. Each night has about 10 men exploring the Beatitudes. The Saturday morning Bible Study (7:00 am) has been consistently attracting approximately 20 – 25 men each week. Stop by anytime for some Mytic Monk coffee, fellowship, and a better understanding of the Sunday readings.

Wisconsin State Council Charity Raffle

The proceeds from the statewide raffle are used to support your Brother Knights and other members of our community to alleviate sorrow, ease financial burdens, and restore hope to victims and families of accidents and illness. The total prizes to be paid out to 25 winners will be $115,000, with $50,000 going to the first-place winner. Last year 126,000 tickets were sold which means the odds of winning are certainly much better than the State Lottery and the use of the net income is for some very worthy causes. The goal for every Knight is to sell or buy at least 5 tickets at $5 each. If you can sell or buy more, let us know! Tickets will be available at the March 11th Officer's Meeting, March 18th Business Meeting, Saturday Morning Bible Study or by request. Stubs and money need to be turned in as soon as you can but definitely no later than the April 15th Membership Meeting. Make checks out to “KofC Council 15659.”

40 Cans for Lent

During these 40 days of Lent, St. Lucy's Knights of Columbus council will be running a food drive called "40 Cans for Lent." The idea is for every parishioner/family to contribute one can of food for each day of Lent. The items collected will go to the St. Lucy's food pantry to help build the food baskets at Easter. Overflow items would go to St. Sebastian's, HALO and Racine County Food Bank. Tall cardboard boxes will be at each of the three entrances to church and as they are filled-up, Knights will empty the boxes, check for expiration dates, organize and deliver the items. St. Lucy's Food Pantry Coordinator, Leslie Hurdis, will provide "training" on how to check dates, sorting, etc.

Fish Fries

Father Mark asked for our assistance with the parish fish fries. This activity was added on to help Father and the parish out. Volunteers from the parish, school and the Knights will be needed to make the two fish fries on March 21st and 28th successful. Sign-up sheets will be in church so please volunteer some time to help make these fish fries successful for the parish.

Council 15659
Institution Day

The official start of this council is March 10, 2013. Happy Anniversary Council 15659 – St. Lucy of Racine!

One Nation Under God

For the Pledge of Allegiance, most people have been conditioned to say “one Nation, under God” (with a comma). But the correct way to say it is as one phrase “one Nation under God” (no comma). We should strive to re-condition our brains to say it the way it was intended.

Council Website

Our website “kofc15659.com” is constantly being updated, especially the Google calendar. If you are at a Knights event and take some photos, let us know so we can include on the website and the newsletter.

Vision Statement

This band of brothers stands united and dedicated to doing good works in the service of God and our neighbor. Our mission will be formed around our core commitments to:
- Evangelization & Faith Formation efforts that are true to the doctrines of the Catholic Church.
- Defending Right to Life & Religious Freedom issues.
- Pastoral support, parish family & youth enrichment.
- Charitable service to our surrounding community.
In the spirit of one of the Beatitudes,
“Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.”

Fraternal Benefits & Information Night

About 25 Knights, spouses and parishioners came to our first Fraternal Benefits & Information Night on February 25th. Attorney Tim Geraghty gave an interesting talk on Estate Planning. Mike Chuchara gave a brief overview of the 23 fraternal benefits that are included in your $20 per year dues. Refreshments and snacks were enjoyed by all and four lucky people won door prizes. Two Racine County board games and two Culver's gift certificates. Our plan is to continue to have these informational nights with different topics of interest. All part of the Knights mission to take care of members and their families.
