Ghana Medical Help

In 2014 - Volume 2

Last Call

This is our final plea for your support to purchase and deliver urgently needed medical equipment in 2014 to hospitals in northern Ghana that serve 2 million people.

Donate Now

We're happy to announce a new partnership with the McMaster DeGroote Medical School Medical Equipment Donation Program (MED-P), who recently sent us a box of our targeted equipment.

Others in our family of partners include medical equipment recovery groups from Dalhousie and Schulich medical schools.

GMH Executive Director Kelly Hadfield will be a guest speaker at "Hungry for Change" on April 30th at The Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry in London, Ontario.

The 2014 Hungry for Change Gala is a semi-formal dinner that illustrates inequality throughout the world. Ticket proceeds for this event will go towards supporting GMH and Right To Play.

The Time Has Come!

Every year we ship out medical equipment to northern Ghana just prior to the heart of malaria season. To meet this timeline, the final equipment orders are now being completed, packing equipment to prepare for shipping has begun, and the curriculum for equipment training programs is developing.

Here's a small selection of the equipment we're sending this year:
  • 326 blood pressure apparatus
  • 226 digital thermometers
  • 84 electronic patient vital sign monitors
  • 3 pediatric weighing scales
.... plus a diverse array of instruments, ophthalmoscopes, autoclaves, suction machines, oxygen concentrators, and much more!

Remember that all equipment supplied is reflective of the expressed needs from each hospital community that are recorded quarterly during our extensive needs assessments.

Medical Facility Partners

We are very excited to announce that in 2014 YOU will be directly supporting:
  • 10 district-level hospitals, in the Builsa, Bongo, Navrongo, Zebilla, Bawku, Nadowli, Tumu, Jirapa, Lawra, and Nandom Districts
  • 2 health centers in Fimbisi and Wiaga
  • 1 regional-level hospital in Bolgatanga

Moreover, we will be expanding our aid to the isolated, northern communities that cannot physically access any hospital.

In order for any health care institution to receive GMH aid, they must send 1-3 medical professionals to undergo GMH Coordinator training and participate in Equipment Education Programs. This ensures we have daily monitoring of the donated supplies and frequent communication with volunteers within each partner hospital.

Throughout 2014, we will be featuring these partner health care institutions in our bimonthly newsletters. Keep your eyes open for them!

Gabby Mandel is our Featured
Volunteer of the Month
for April 2014

This edition we feature the amazing contributions of 9 year old Gabby Mandel. Determined to help improve the quality of basic healthcare in northern Ghana herself, Gabby had the incredible self-initiative to create a Ghana fact sheet and canvas her neighbourhood for donations to help Ghana Medical Help acquire more medical supplies.

Donors expressed their admiration both for her story and for being so knowledgeable about Ghana and what she was fundraising for.

In just one weekend, Gabby fundraised over $250! While she is very happy with this achievement, Gabby is determined to continue raising awareness in her community and knocking on as many doors as possible to reach her goal of $1,000.

On behalf of the countless Ghanaians that will be affected by the medical equipment her donation will provide, everyone in GMH would like to say THANK YOU Gabby!

If you would like to help Gabby reach her goal Donate Now and add the note "For Gabby".
