From Principal Griffin Sonntag and Assistant Principal Joni Sherman

End of 3rd Quarter
The end of the 3rd quarter is this coming Friday, March 28 as we head into spring break. We realize that the student assignment notebook incorrectly stated that it was this past Friday.

Congratulations Chess Team
The CHMS Chess Team finished in 6th place at the state tournament last weekend.  Our team was made up of all sixth graders who competed against 6th-8th grade students from the other schools.  The top finisher was Zamaan Qureshi with 4.5 points. The rest of the team was Jack Gallwas, Jack Galassi, Daniel Leung, and Trevor Tompkins.  Nice work, Eagles!

Track Season Begins After Spring Break
7th and 8th grade students can participate in track beginning after spring break.  There are packets of information in the main office.

Once on This Island
Congratulations to the cast and crew of “Once on This Island” for their outstanding performances last week.  We have a very talented student body!  Thank you to Mrs. Haggar, Mrs. Soumar and Mr. Bromann for your fine directing.  Thank you also to all of the parents who donated their time and talents to help make the show a success.

Just a Heads Up...

Pizza Wars/Eagle Jam Auditions Coming Soon

Does your daughter think she could be the next American Idol or your son dream of being in a rock band?  Well, they could fulfill a small part of that dream by providing part of the entertainment during our 1st Annual Pizza Wars/Eagle Jam Extravaganza!  Eagle Jam is an open mic type event open to all CHMS students.  We are looking for singers, musicians, karaoke enthusiasts, etc.  Auditions will be held the week of April 13th.  Exact date/time will be announced after spring break.  Acts should be 2 to 3 minutes in length and music/lyrics must be family friendly.  Encourage your child to join the fun!

Pizza Wars/Eagle Jam is on Friday, May 2nd from 6-9 pm and tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door.  We will have 8-10 local pizza places on hand that night from Foxes and Pompeii to Dominos and Scapa.   It is hosted by CHMS, but everyone in the community is welcome, so bring your friends and neighbors and help us determine who REALLY does have the best pizza, while enjoying some great CHMS student entertainment!  Profits will directly benefit the PTO fund for student technology.

Are Your Fall Magazine Subscriptions from Great American Coming Up for Renewal?

If they are and you're interested in renewing, please renew through the link below so CHMS PTO will continue to get credit. If you send in the renewal card inside your magazine the PTO does not earn any money on the renewal.  You will need to key in your child's name, advisory teacher and grade level. You submit an order as if it is a new subscription, but key in the information EXACTLY as it appears on your current magazine label. Great American will then recognize it as a renewal and add the additional weeks to the end of your current subscription. Thanks as always for supporting the PTO that does so much to support the students and staff at CHMS!

Follow up to PTO Meeting on Internet Safety

March PTO speaker Jeff Bean, of ACT on Bullying, has provided some additional tips regarding Internet Safety.  These can be accessed on the PTO Website (www.chmspto.org) under the tab PTO Minutes & Speaker Handouts.  Things like checking your child’s phone for the following apps:
Dangerous Social Networking Sites/Apps
Ask.fm- Users can be anonymous, site originated in Latvia and owners do not cooperate with law enforcement, this site is linked to multiple suicides in Europe and the U.S. regarding cyber-bullying
KIK- Site originated in Canada, and owners do not cooperate with law enforcement, rated 17 and over due to sexting issues and inappropriate content, frequent cyber-bullying issues.

Save the Date:  April PTO Meeting

Wednesday, April 16th, 9:15 am – Dr. Lisa Kaplin, Life Coach, Psychologist & Professional Speaker will share with us different ways to identify and learn more about anxiety in our children that we may or may not know even exists.  What are the warning signs and how can we prevent/address this in our fast paced society?  If you would like to learn more about Dr. Kaplin please check out her website - www.smartwomeninspiredlives.com

PTO Website/Meeting Minutes Added (www.chmspto.org)

The new PTO website has a lot of great information from the calendar and lunch menus to upcoming events and grade specific information.  We will also now be posting all monthly meeting minutes so you can keep up with what’s happening even if you can’t attend the meeting.  Please contact PTO Secretary, Liz Speziale, within 30 days of posting with any corrections.  If no corrections are received within that time frame, the minutes will be considered approved.
