Marty's Message

This week’s Monday Message includes several excellent examples of CPS courses designed to instill higher-order thinking and encourage the development of people skills. Why is this important?

Our students need skills that will help them meet the knowledge and technology-based demands of tomorrow’s world. They must master higher-order thinking needed to see and act upon relationships among seemingly diverse concepts. Critical thinking, through analysis, comparison, inference and evaluation are the skills of a successful 21st century professional.

It will also be increasingly important for our student to have people skills which are characterized by teamwork, collaboration, communication, ethics and the ability to get along well with co-workers.

These types of skills are mastered best through real-life simulations, hands-on learning and outside-of-class experiences–exactly what is highlighted in this edition of the Monday Message in many of our programs.

We are proud to be CPS.

Marty Loy,
CPS Dean
