Women's Network of Rapid City, Inc
The Networker:
April 2014

 June 2014
Alex Johnson
will be our new meeting place.

The winds of change are blowing.  After several great years at the Comfort Suites, we are changing the location of our meetings.  We very much appreciate the hospitality of the Comfort Inn and the great cooking of Angel’s Catering.  We could not make it work financially to stay.
Starting with the June 11th meeting, we will be meeting downtown at the Alex Johnson Hotel.  It is a return to the roots of women’s network.  The Alex is where the group started years ago.  I’m sure there will be some learning curve and some changes.  The board considered a number of locations, but this was the most fiscally responsible and reasonable choice.  If you have questions on the change of venue please visit with a board member.

ELECTIONS 2014
Our elections will be held during our April meeting.  I would very much like to thank those who have stepped up and offered to run for an elected position or take on an appointed position.  I am looking forward to seeing what a new location and new leadership will bring.  Renewals begin in April, if you pay your membership dues by the May meeting date, they will remain at the old $40 rate.  After the May meeting, dues increase to $50.   I hope you join me for another great year of relationships and networking.

April Spotlight on…

What type of business are you in?  How did you get into that field? (Feel free to list any professional awards you’ve earned or organizations you belong to.)
I am currently helping friends open a new business in Rapid City, Black Hills Awards & Engraving.  Although the owners have been working out of their home for over two years, they officially opened a showroom/storefront on March 3, 2014. Black Hills Awards & Engraving is able to provide awards ranging from glass art corporate awards to traditional sports trophies and everything in between. They also engrave on most materials – glass, wood, leather, and metal to name a few.
There are also three smaller divisions of Black Hills Awards & Engraving. Black Hills Laser Design creates custom products from a variety of materials, Black Hills Balloon Co. offers individuals balloons, balloon bouquets and balloon décor for any occasion, and Black Hills Bling is excited to be able to add rhinestone and crystal “bling” to accessories and apparel.
I have actually known the owners of Black Hills Awards & Engraving for 12 years and have worked for them in the past. They appreciate my passion for people and love of networking so it makes me a great addition to their team. My hope is to be successful in making beneficial connections in the Rapid City and surrounding communities and in the process, being part of the growth of the business.
I am a graduate and former class liaison of the Women’s Community Leadership Initiative, formally sponsored by the Rapid City Chamber and I also serve on the Board of Directors for Youth & Family Services.

Please tell us a little about your family:
I am a South Dakota native and have lived most of my life in the Rapid City area. As a teenager I was privileged to live in Germany for five years.
I have twin boys who are 5 years old and provide me with challenging adventures every day!  They are quite different so there is never a dull moment or enough time in the day.  The one thing they do agree on is BMX Racing so that keeps us quite busy in the summer.
Your hobbies:
I love being challenged and learning new things.  Some of my long-standing hobbies include traveling, jewelry making, cooking and helping others.
