Winter Update
The winter that wont end...I think it's spring?
Over the course of this winter, I've been busy working on the next issue of SLAG Mag. I am hoping to launch it very soon as a celebration for the end of Winter. BUT, I need your help in raising some of the funds to cover printing. Please think of donating to SLAG Mag. Check out my nifty Kickstarter campaign page for more info. A donation of $5 covers all the costs for creating 1 copy of SLAG Mag so please think of it as a subscription fee.
A highlight of the New Year was a visit down to IDA as their artist & activist in residence. I was lucky enough to be there at the same time as Coral Short, who recorded a prophecy from me for an upcoming show. She also took the amazing photo at the top of this email.
Harrisonburg seems to be snowier than I remembered. JMU canceled classes 5 times due to weather. This was not wasted time because I was able to work on some text based projects (and drink lots of tea). Highlights include two published pieces in The Breeze about Gender Identity & Institutional Homophobia. I have a few more pieces in the work, will see if they get any traction.
The Old Furnace Artist Residency has really been picking up steam with 3 amazing visits this year by Walker Tuffs, Daniel King, and Amanda Hunt. They created some amazing work and conducted/organized some great exhibitions, workshops, and performances. I am still waiting for the confirmation on the adoption of Old Furnace Road. A final bit of good news about OFAR is that I'll be speaking about it at the upcoming Open Engagement Conference at the Queen Museum, NYC in May.
