Children @ First Pres March 1-15, 2014
Dear <<First Name>>,

I hope this finds you and your family in great spirits!

There's lots going on at First Presbyterian to help us live into the pre-Easter experiences of Holy Week. With everything from a lecture given by Marcus Borg to the dark and somber Good Friday service there's sure to be something to help enrich your Holy Week.

Blessings,
Jonathan Fell

This is a great (supervised but not overly structured) opportunity for kids that allows parents the chance to attend an Adult Education class, to relax and enjoy a cup of coffee, and/or share informal conversation with other parents. Check out the pink "For Parents, Sundays @ 9am" box below for more info on upcoming topics.

Hallelujah!

*Almost*

As we finally finish our journey through the quiet and dark wilderness of Lent, we begin our transition to the bright light and loud “hallelujah!” of Easter morning.

The week before Easter (starting Palm Sunday, April 13 and ending the night before Easter Sunday, April 20) is Holy Week. Holy Week is celebrated all across the world through drama, parades, and various kinds of worship services that celebrate the final days and death of Jesus.  Now, while some of the stories might not provide the best script for an at-home drama production (I’m certain there’s a ‘do not try this at home’ warning in the footnotes of the crucifixion story) there’s plenty of ways to make Holy Week an important part of your family’s Holy Week. Below are a few scriptures and activities to help your family celebrate Holy Week together.

Palm Sunday: (Matt. 21:1-11) Celebrate Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem with a “Hosana!” dance party!

Monday: (John 12:1-11) Think about the things your kids are saving for a special day. Make a special treat to share together on Easter morning!

Tuesday: (John 12:20-26) Play a few rounds of ‘Simon Says’ and follow the leader!

Wednesday: (John 13:1-17) Set up a bowl of soapy water and take turns washing each other’s feet.

Maundy Thursday: (Luke 22:14-20) Buy or bake a loaf of bread together. Break it, eat it and wonder what it was like to hear Jesus talk at their last supper together.

Good Friday: (Mark 15:21-32) Draw a red dot on one palm and talk about how painful and sad it was the day Jesus died. Write ‘Aleluia’ on the other palm to remind us of the miracle coming up on Sunday!

Saturday: (Matt 27:57-66) Use tape to ‘seal’ one of the doorways in your house.

Easter Sunday: Join our church family for worship to celebrate the Resurrection!

I hope you your family have a great Holy Week together.

See you on Easter!
Jonathan

Please Note: There will be
NO Sunday School on Easter, April 20.
All families are encouraged to worship together. And don't forget about the Easter Egg Hunt
at 10:30 in Central Park!
Godly Play (PreK-2nd)
Over the next two weeks our Godly Play classes will wonder their way through the Faces of Easter. During these stories they hear about key moments in Jesus' life that lead to His death and resurrection.

We Believe (3rd-5th)
On April 6, our We Believers make their way closer to Easter by taking a look at Jesus' arrest, trial, and crucifixion in the Passion Story (Matthew 26:46-27:66). Then, on March 13, we'll celebrate Palm Sunday by taking a look back at the excitement surrounding Jesu's entry into Jerusalem (Matt. 21:1-11).
