Newly added titles by Presses de l’Ifpo and Collège de France
We are pleased to announce two new publishers joining DOAB: Presses de l’Ifpo and Collège de France, both hosted by OpenEdition.
Presses de l’Ifpo (Publications de l’Institut français du Proche-Orient) have uploaded 62 new titles in DOAB. Active in the Humanities and Social Sciences, Presses de l’Ifpo publish scientific research concerning societies in the Near East. Have a look at these newly added books in DOAB.
Collège de France is the esteemed public higher education institute, aiming to be a forum for cutting-edge research and teaching. Supportive of free access to knowledge, Collège de France has added 79 books to DOAB in February.

DOAB currently offers over 1800 books in many different languages. Besides titles in English, there are also books in Italian, German, Dutch, Russian and other languages. The new books by Presses de l’Ifpo and Collège de France increase the collection of books in French.

DOAB as usage enhancer
DOAB only lists books that are licensed under Creative Commons or a comparable license; this is the reason not all books of the OAPEN Library are available in DOAB – the books with a more restrictive license are excluded. However, this enables us to measure the effects of DOAB: does a listing in the Directory enhance the usage?

We looked at the average downloads of books with a CC license and books with a more restrictive license in the period before and after the launch of DOAB. When we compare the two periods, the positive influence of DOAB becomes immediately clear. Before DOAB, the average monthly downloads of books with a CC license was 1.3 times higher compared to the other books. After the launch of the Directory, the books with a CC license – listed in DOAB – are downloaded almost 2.5 times more on average. This is a clear indication of the success of the DOAB discovery service.

Harvesting DOAB metadata
DOAB enables librarians worldwide to include our collection in their library. The metadata of all books – updated daily – can be downloaded through our website. The metadata is available under a CC0 license, which enables everybody to copy, modify and distribute the data, even for commercial purposes, without asking prior permission.

We provide two ways to make our metadata available: OAI Harvesting and downloading a CSV file. When using OAI Harvesting, the available formats are Dublin Core and MARCXML. Browse our Frequently Asked Questions for more information and technical details.

License information in the search results
When searching the Directory, it is possible to get a better selection by using the option “Narrow your search”. This enables you to select books from a certain period, language or publisher. We have now added a new facet: the publication license.
