Discussion Groups 2014

Terms 2, 3 and 4
Thank you for your interest in attending one of our Mothers Network Discussion groups. We have now planned out the remaining groups for the year, based on what mums have told us that they need. The full schedule is below but here are a few updates:
  • More evening groups and a weekend group for those mums who work or are busy during the week days.
  • Island Bay group is now an evening group.
  • Eastern Suburbs group will start in June to allow more mums the chance to join.
  • Tawa group brought forward to cater for many keen mums in the Northern suburbs.
  • An extra Single Mums group so that more single mums will get to meet and share their experiences.

We do hope that one of the scheduled groups suits you and that we will get to meet you soon. To get a place all you need to do is click Enrolment form and fill in your details. All daytime groups (including weekends) have babysitters which may make it easier for you to attend. Evening groups do not have babysitters, but if you have a young breast-fed baby you may be able to bring them along, please just ask.  If these groups do not work for you or if you have any questions then please get in touch. What happens in a Discussion Group
Before the group starts you will be invited to complete an anonymous survey about the topics you want to discuss. At the first session you will be welcomed by the facilitators and offered a drink, if it is a daytime group there will be plenty of time to settle your child with the babysitters. Once everyone has arrived and is settled in, the facilitators commence the session by introducing themselves and asking participants to do the same. They will help everyone get to know each other and feel comfortable in the group, part of this includes agreeing ground rules  to help create an environment in which everyone feels comfortable to share.

Then the facilitators will get the discussion started, focusing on the topics that the group has selected. Each week new topics will be addressed, the facilitators use different tools and exercises to approach each topic. Importantly they follow the lead of the group and give space for everyone to participate. Previous participants have spoken about the meaningful sharing and great laughs, plus wonderful friendships formed. To read more about what others have said visit

Cost
Mothers Network is a small not-for-profit organisation and we rely on grant funding and donations from participants in order to operate. We currently ask $40 for a group or more if you can afford it. Your money will go towards the cost of the venue hire, refreshments, resources and other operational costs and will ensure we can continue to run groups in the future. However no one will be excluded if they cannot afford to pay so if the cost is a problem for you please just get in touch.
