Celebrating Abilities!!

Futures Rehabilitation Center observed Intellectual Disabilities Awareness Month with a Celebrating Abilities day on March 19, 2014. More than 200 participants, staff, board members, and agency colleagues joined together to Celebrate Abilities with a day of information, fun and lunch.

Information booths by Northwest Health Connections provided information concerning nutrition, fire safety, personal hygiene, internet safety, dental hygiene and flu germ prevention. Many area agencies participated in the planning and facilitating of the days events, including Link of Cameron, Elk, and McKean Counties, Evergreen Elm, Aging/Intellectual-Developmental Disability Team of Cameron, Elk, Forest, McKean, Potter, and Warren Counties, the McKean County Department of Human Services, and Futures’ Sweet Deals Café’.

Officer Bartlett of the Bradford City Police Department did a presentation on traffic safety and 911 call types. A lively and informative question and answer session followed Officer Bartlett’s presentation.

The keynote speaker of the day was Christopher Dubble of the Temple University School of Social Administration and the Institute on Protective Services. Mr. Dubble’s highly interactive discussion was about assessing our stressful situations, believing in ourselves to overcome our stress, and conquering our stress.

Futures Rehabilitation Center would like to thank all of the many people and agencies involved in the day’s events.
