The Panda's Garden: Watercolors by Marion Russell
Opening Reception:
Friday, April 11th 3-5PM
Marion Russell, 95, began painting in her late eighties, after retiring from a career as a high school science teacher. However, it wasn't until she moved to a local senior residential community, The Fountains at Millbrook, that Marion began to blossom as an artist

Thanks to Ellen Metzger O'Shea, a professional artist who volunteers her time helping Fountains residents explore their creativity in all kinds of media, Marion has a new found passion that gives purpose to her days.

You can meet the artist at her opening reception on Friday, April 11th from 3-5PM at the library. Light refreshments will be served.

Now on Exhibit in the library's main lobby
Millbrook's Italian Community

Hogan's Alley (now known as Alden Place) is a location which has been home to many new comers in our community. Owned in the early days by Franklin Carpenter the son in law of Jacob Willets, who came to Mechanic as a young boy when it was the center of a growing Quaker community.  Deeds show that over time Carpenter sold to a relative of Mr. Davison (Halcyon Hall)  as well as to people of Irish, English and German descent.  In turn some of these people sold to members of the Italian community and others. Each group of immigration/new comers put down roots, and worked hard to make a contribution to the community and become part of it.
Theater Arts in Millbrook

Long before the current forms of entertainment through iPads, 3-D movies and Instragram, Millbrook neighbors got together to enjoy illustrated lectures at the Women's Christian Temperance Union, and movies and live theatrical performances in the community. This exhibit showcases some of the early information the Historical Society Archives has on the once local movie theater and a variety of performing groups, some of which feature local students and citizens of Millbrook.
Be sure to stop by the Historical Society Exhibit Cases
located in the main lobby to see their latest exhibits!
