Time Saving Tip
Some recipes, like the Sloppy Joes (page 182) have a mixture of herbs and spices that can be measured in advance. I love the Sloppy Joes so measure out 5 recipes worth the day I'll be preparing them for dinner. When combined the seasoning measure out to just under 2 tablespoons. I store this mixture in a jar with instructions so I know when I made the mix and how much I need to add (see image below).
Next time I want to make this recipe, all I will have to do is saute an onion and the meat, add two tablespoons of the already prepared seasonings, and measure out the tomato paste and water. That cuts the prep time in half! Try this out next time you make this or any other recipe with dried herbs and spices.
