Exploring F# from a C# developer's perspective
When: Monday August 16. 6:30 pm
Where: Microsoft, 835 Market St Ste 700, SF
Link: http://bit.ly/bNzMag

Talbott Crowell, co-author of Wrox's Professional F#, will speak on his experiences with F# from his perspective as a seasoned C# developer. He also has experience with Silverlight and F#, so those with an interest in graphics could ask him about it. Since C# is very similar to Java, those with Java experience should feel at home.

Talbott is a Solution Architect at ThirdM who designs and builds enterprise applications with a focus on Microsoft technologies including SharePoint (WSS 3.0, MOSS 2007, and SharePoint 2010), BizTalk Server, and the .NET framework. He has special interest in manycore solutions and spends time investigating technologies such as F# and the Task Parallel Library built into .NET 4.0 and Visual Studio 2010. Talbott and his company deliver solutions and services to large and small companies including the Fortune 500. Talbott also assists companies with the development process by using a blend of Agile and traditional methodologies, Team Foundation Server and Visual Studio Team System, Scrum, Test Driven Development (TDD), performance testing, and other proven tools and practices. Talbott is a group lead of the New England F# User Group. You can follow him on Twitter @talbott.

In addition, we'll schedule some 5-10 minute lightning talks. Email Matt Harrington if you'd like to sign up. Topics could be basic functional programming lessons or something cool you've been doing with F#. After 6pm, ask the security guard to let you up to the 7th floor.

The Silicon Valley iPhone and iPad Developers' Meetup: Demo Night
When: Monday August 16, 7:00 pm
Where: The Office of Silicon Valley, Sunnyvale
Link: http://bit.ly/b583mA

This month we'll be at the Office of Silicon Valley in Sunnyvale. Also, it's been a while since we've spent much time on demos and there's a lot of great new apps to see, so I'd like to dedicate August to demos. Let's aim for three minutes per demo and see how many we get. If you'd like to present, please post something about your app in the comments on the events page.

UPDATE: Thanks to Kiran Bellubbi at High Five Labs for arranging our venue for August. Kiran's arranged for snacks from a healthy fusion truck that will be available for dinner as well (free snacks, pay your way for dinner). Also Matthew Gonzales from Appbackr is coming and planning to bring some giveways. But we know you're all coming for the awesome demos :)

Bay Area Video Game Development Meetup Group
When: Tuesday August 17, 8:00pm
Link: http://bit.ly/cT9FWo

Hey Gamers,

We will be meeting again this month at Jillian's. We will do our best to get the front lounge area near the entrance. If you do not see anyone there, please check in the back pool table area. If anyone has a theme, an ice breaker or a something they would like to present please get in touch with the host.

Plug and Play Android Developer-User Group Monthly Meetup

Lone developer in need of design help? Look no further!

This meetup will feature three 5 minutes presentations of a functional application that needs help on the usability side. Our panel of UX experts will make recommendations on how to improve the application. Whoever else will be in the public is more than welcome to give feedback, ideas, or jump in and out-stage the professionals.

Join us for a live demo of how an expert review is done, live and direct!

Thank you very much. Please send me feedback, more events and any other interesting information to santiago@thestartupdigest.com.
