Weekly Opportunities & Events

Must be Photoshopped. There's not even like a LITTLE snow.
We chose this week's picture for two reasons.

First: shout out to Prestige (left), who is helping establish the new mentorship and positive masculinity initiative on campus, Brother to Brother. BtB had its first steering meeting this past Friday and it was really inspirational. If you know someone who might be interested in learning more about BtB, please, put them in touch with Prestige.

Second: just look at that grass. Anyone else see that grass and hear Lionel?

Help staff the Sustainable Living Expo
The Sustainable Living Expo is an annual day-long exposition that hosts hundreds of exhibits, presentations and workshops promoting sustainable living in the Champlain Valley. This year's SLE will be held Saturday 3/29 at Middlebury Union High School. They expect more than a thousand visitors this year! They need volunteers for everything from setting up Friday night, greeting people at the front table, assisting exhibitors, monitoring workshops, directing traffic, and supervising little ones in the children’s playroom. Volunteers will get first-hand experience at event planning, meet new people, have fun, and get a free Expo t-shirt! If you would like to be an Expo volunteer, email Lea Calderon-Guthe.

Playground Volunteers Needed for BCS

Seeking volunteers to help staff Bridport Central School’s recess any day, Monday through Friday, from 11:30 AM - 12:00 PM. The elementary school children look up to Middlebury College students tremendously much. You can provide incredibly important positive role modeling and support. Pick any day that works for you! Contact Principal Kathleen Kilbourne at 802-758-2331 or kkilbourne@addisoncentralsu.org.

Help young families at PCC
Addison County Parent/Child Center is an award-winning not-for-profit that supports young parents and their children. Among other things, PCC provides food, day care, and high school equivalency classes from their office across the street from Middlebury Union High School. They have a longstanding volunteer relationship with the College's student body and depend on student volunteers for many of their most critical support systems for local families. Whether you're interested in a one-time gig chopping vegetables or a sustained weekly commitment looking after the little ones, PCC could use your help! Contact Becky Bertrand for further information and opportunities.

Join the team at HOPE
HOPE (Helping Overcome Poverty’s Effects) is seeking volunteers to help out in several areas. The food shelf needs individuals who are able to stand and lift, to maintain stock and repackage bulk foods. The front desk needs detail-oriented, patient, computer proficient individuals to answer phones and greet people. The main office needs someone to help write thank you notes. Interested? Call HOPE at 802-388-7044 for more information.

Community Friends Feature of the Week
Like playing outside, football or video games? Community Friends, a campus-based one-on-one mentoring program that matches Middlebury students with Addison County children ages six to twelve, is seeking a big brother or big sister for a nine-year old boy. You could easily be a role model for this young boy just by meeting with him for two hours each week. Flexible meeting times on your own schedule. The only requirement is enthusiasm and willingness to build a meaningful, consistent relationship. For more information about CF and how to apply to become a mentor, please visit their website at go/cf or email them at comfriends@middlebury.edu.
