Returning to Petite Côte Conservation Area.

Monday April 7th 10 A.M. until ?

I spent some time this week finding us new areas to paint.  As the snow melts mud becomes a problem.  A lot of our favorite areas are under water right now.    We will be returning to this small gem of a park one more time.  Then it will be off to other areas that I've lined up.

Alternate Rain Location!
If it rains, we will head to the nature center at Ojibway Park for a day of indoor sketching.  These two locations are fairly close together.

A bit about the area:
Petite Côte Conservation Area was created in 2007 alongside the Detroit River, south of LaSalle. The environmentally friendly boardwalk trail measures about 300 metres and is constructed from recycled plastics instead of traditional wood.

Petite Côte is an important marsh habitat.  The Detroit River – A Canadian Heritage River, and Fighting Island – an International Wildlife Refuge, can be viewed from the viewing tower located at the end of the trail.

Important Information about this location:

There are no washroom's available at this location.  Just north of this location there is a Tim Horton's, in nearby LaSalle.

As you can see by Nancy Bauer's photo, There are no handrails on this board walk.  This maybe an issue with people who are not steady on their feet.  However, It is wide enough for two people to walk down.  If you are setting up on the boardwalk you should ensure that people can easily pass you.

Alternatively, you can set up on the observation tower.  But, please be try to keep your footprint small so others may enjoy the area as well.  Five of us fit on the tower last week, and there's a small bench.  Thanks to Kathy Hudak for this photo.

The observation tower at the end of this board walk offers some nice scenery.  It's also a lot of fun painting elbow to elbow!  Not to mention learning each other's recipes!

If you feel you can not negotiate the boardwalk there is a good view from the parking lot.  Below Kathy Hudak paints in oils on the boardwalk.  Thanks to Nancy for this great photo.

Directions:

Here is a link to my customized Google  map to this location:  https://tinyurl.com/Petite-Cote-Map

NOTE:  Google does not have this park marked, so you will not be able to locate it without using my map.

The view of the sign that marks this conservation area maybe blocked.  So take is slow.  The parking area is also a local mail pick up location.  If you come to the intersection for Malden Road (there is a traffic light) you've passed the area and will need to turn back.  Below is a photo of what the entrance to the park looks like in summer.

I wish to thank Nancy Bauer and Kathy Hudak for their photo's and to Nancy for her help in scouting out this location.  We hope you enjoy it.
