Merry Christmas and Happy Spring friends! No we're not having a nervous breakdown, we're just happy to see the spring melt!
Its been a wild, hectic and incredibly fun 6 months since we last wrote, so we feel like we have so much to share, but as always, we'll try to keep it brief, and we'll let you click where you want to find out more.
Our list size has doubled since our last newsletter, so first we'd like to welcome all of our new subscribers - many of you we had the pleasure of meeting in person at workshops, on trips, at conferences/ symposiums or even at our film premiere. So many good memories and fascinating people - thank you!
Despite the 2 feet of snow on the ground, including 4" that fell yesterday, and more in the forecast today, spring is definitely in the air! So we're excited for our new, upcoming adventures, but look back on the last 6 months with a lot of pride and joy! |
Snowwalkers Documentary available online and on DVD!

“Snowwalkers” is a 50-minute documentary about a 10-day trip down the historic Missinaibi River undertaken in February, 2013.
We're happy to announce that it is now freely available online on Youtube, but for those that like a physical keepsake, we now have a DVD version available, which includes a 12-page, full-colour booklet which introduces the trip and all of its participants. (Also a great way to support us and similar projects in the future!)

Our fall workshop schedule saw us teaching moccasins, mittens and snowshoe bindings in Ontario and the US, in a range of locations including: high schools and colleges; an artist's collective; conferences and symposiums; a museum, and a nature chalet! Check out some of the proud moccasin owners here.
Our winter expedition schedule had us out for over 40 glorious days this winter, traveling 300 + km on 7 different diverse trips. Our personal highlight: all of them! Find out more, and find links to all the photos here. Videos will be released this spring/ summer. |
Looking Forward: Off the Grid and On Golden Pond!

If you received (and read!) our last newsletter, you know all about our new venture moving to a remote, off-grid property this summer. Well, the time is finally here! We're waiting for snow to melt and ice to break up before we can get in there in earnest and start building, but in the meantime we've already begun drafting plans, and hauling logs to where we can eventually mill them.
In less than 5 short months we will be without a home unless we build one ourselves, and we couldn't be more excited about it! This has been a dream of ours for quite some time, and we imagine we're not alone in that dream, so we plan to share as much of the process as we can through photos and videos. We hope you enjoy! |

One of the things we've quickly discovered, which is probably true with most small businesses still in the formative years of development, is that the number of grand ideas we have vastly exceeds our time available to implement them. So while we'd like to do much more, we have a few priorities ID'd for this spring and summer. Northern Book Recommendation: Snow Walker's Companion

The grand-daddy literary resource of them all for traditional winter camping, and simply put, the reason Lure of the North exists! We've been waiting anxiously for the day when we could realistically recommend "Snow Walker's Companion" (as it has previously been out of print and selling for $200+ on Amazon), and that day is today! Stone Ridge Press is putting the book into its 4th printing, and we are now accepting pre-orders in our store. We expect to be able to ship copies out sometime this month!
