Lesson 208: Faith When Life Hurts Pt. 2
Sometimes we think of Bible characters as super-heroes, and that we could never be like them.
We are so familiar with Abraham and how his story turned out, we forget how hard it would have been for him to trust and obey.
Try to imagine that Abraham lived in Europe during the 1400’s before the discovery of America. Imagine that God told him to leave the comfort of being a wealthy European landowner, and commit his family to cross the ocean.
God told Abraham to go to an unknown country, where he would become the founder of a great nation. God promised that the descendants of Abraham’s son Isaac would be the source of blessing to many nations.
Then God asked Abraham to kill Isaac. It’s hard to obey. Abraham knew that.
God commanded Israel to give the land rest every 7th year (no planting). Lev.25:3-4, 20-22
God promised to multiply their harvest in the 6th year so that they would have enough.
Israel wouldn’t have courage to obey God’s command unless they trusted God’s promise.
About This Series
The goal of this series is to become more useful in serving the Lord Jesus Christ, as an instrument in the Redeemer's hand. The theme verses for the series are Ephesians 4:22-24, Philemon 11, 2 Timothy 2:21
- to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,
- and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
- Formerly he was useless to you, but now he is indeed useful to you and to me.
- Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.
